Cindy Sheehan, Santorum, Frist and Fox
Cindy is getting MSM coverage. NBC primetime gave Cindy 30 seconds, then cut to a laughing chimp before moving on.

Santorum and Frist seem to be making moves to disassociate themselves from the far-right.

And Kondracke (of all fucking people) opposed chimpy on stem cells and intelligent design being taught alongside evolution.

Yes, Kondracke is a piece of shit, as is Frist and Santorum. I know this with all my heart.

A comment was made on these forums that I wholeheartedly agree with; that the media are whores. They follow the dollars. And if it was just about Cindy getting airtime, I might agree that the motivation for the MSM covering Cindy was nothing more than tabloid journalism.

But I never thought I would see the day that Mort locks horns with the chimp.

Either the neocon straglehold may be starting to loosen, or I am missing something.

Somebody wanna clue me in, please?

2. I think what is happening is that
the Repubs are feeling the shift in public sentiment against the war and Bush policy in general.
That Congressional race that Hackett almost stole in the reddest of red districts has scared the crap out of them (not to mention the new poll numbers coming out of Ohio), and all the would be pres candidates are scrambling for the center a la Hillary, because they realize that the Far Right act is wearing thin with the people. They realize that if any Repubs up for re-election survive 06, it will be either because they are in a super red district/state, or because they did a good job of shifting to the center. So they are all trying to cover their own ass and position themselves to weather the coming storm. They realize that they can't stand by Bush because everyone is starting to hate him and wont vote for Repubs that will just rubberstamp his bullshit. Each has their own idea of how far back to the center is just enough or too far and they are starting to disagree and disemble.
That is my humble theory.

3. Two words...
... midterm elections.

They all want to appear moderate. Appeal to the average voters. It's all a game with them. Manipulate public opinion in whichever direction they think it needs to go.

No values, no principles, so it's all hucksterism, all the time.

Sounds old and trite, but it's especially true today. These guys say they have core values, but they're watching polls all the time, and the polls now say that the middle doesn't really care for their antics on ID and stem cells and abortion.

Cheers.

4. I think the only way Santorum would be able to distance himself from
the far-right would be to claim he has a secret love child with Barbara Streisand and then get caught in a steamy hotel tryst with one of the Queer Eye guys.

5. They go on political polls
Remember what they accuse the democratic politicians of doing they themselves do it. Frist is for sure going to run in 2008 but I doubt he's going to get much support from the republicans because of his stem cell stance and also not being at "Justice Sunday II" was a big thing I think. They didn't invite him for whatever reason (my guess is the stem cell bill). He's trying to appeal as a moderate. I don't think their 2008 nominee will be him or McCain personally. The fundie and freeper base is pissed at both of them. And whomever does run has to have Bush's support and have him campaign and publicially support them.
