HARTMANN: CINDY ON PROGRAM TOMORROW, NO ACCESS TO LAWYER
Thom Hartmann will have Cindy on program tomorrow

Ben Burch of White Rose Society reminds us that if arrested under threat to national security, you have NO ACCESS TO A LAWYER

1. Her Lawyer will be there with her Thursday
She will have access to him, I guess up until the time that she's arrested.

They would really be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn't allow her the right to her lawyer, but I wouldnt' put it past them..

2. It's a new thing under the PATRIOT ACT
As soon as she is arrested, she can be sent to Gitmo and held forever

9. That would be a HUGH PR blunder
Nothing would turn this country off to Bush faster than him putting that dear lady in jail (or Gitmo)

24. They would
in this day and age of internet activism, this would make the Free Mumia movement look like chump change.

This would Schiavo in their collective faces.

23. Yes, but she can't be disappeared
Unlike many of the folks at Gitmo who have next to no-one to fight for their release (and that sucks, folks), Cindy has 100,000s of people willing to scream.

26. Constitutional Amendments Trump Willy-Nilly Acts (laws), yet...
It is true that Amendments trump simple laws. However, if you are picked up in a sweep along with everyone around you at the time, and nobody is around to witness/chronicle it, did it really happen? If you have nobody to represent you, and the government has your body confined, you are effectively marginalized.

So we who are not picked up can go on believing, falsely, that no new precedents have been established -- since legal precedents are established by court procedures...and you will never make it that far.

18. Matthew 25:55-56?
The 25th chapter of the book of Matthew ends with Matt. 25:46. What are you trying to quote?

15. They ARE sending this as a message
courtesy of the Patriot Act whose real purposes are nothing compared to the broad club it gives to power. The news people not commenting on this of course will show how great a weapon it is too, as pure intimidation- if only the isolated patriot(against whom these kinds of laws are directed) gets the point. They allow the RW noise machine to argue absurd and offensive opposite justifications while the obvious threat walks invisible, its menacing aura descending like a wall around the entire nation.

Whether she is even arrested or not, welcome to patriot Act America where every PO'ed GOP twerp can send people away into the night or at least convince you they could.

While the most heinous acts and crimes ever committed in this nation are protected with the same cloak.

14. DUer Dylan Garcia is her attorney
He'll be on his way to Crawford on Wednesday afternoon following a court appearance (I believe he said on some threads here).

Things are about to get real hot in Central Texas, and I don't mean the weather.

19. I hope Bushco isn't bluffing
Such an abuse of the new law would be not only the biggest PR blunder they could make, but a good demonstration of how the Patriot Act lends itself to abuse.

This lady has the whole administration cornered! It's amazing.

21. Is it confirmed that they threatened her with that kind of arrest?
If it's definite that they threatened her with arrest under the Patriot Act, rather than just regular arrest for civil disobedience, then they've already crossed a very important line in a very big and public way. That would be using the Patriot Act to stifle dissent, directly and unambiguously. And if it's a confirmed fact that they did we should get real loud about it.
