Hi,
The Crawford newspaper, the Iconoclast, has reporters blogging from the scene today, and at 4:55 p.m., she was reporting that the sheriff had arrived and told everyone who'd parked a car or camper that they had to move their vehicles within 15 minutes, or he'd start arresting people and towing cars.
If you go to http://www.iconoclast-texas.com/ and click on Cindy Watch, you get the blog. But the server's painfully slow.
Reporter said thunderstorm was on its way. Okay, they just ran them off the triangular piece of land where the tends and vehicles were. Apparently it was private property. Local deputy Sgt. Kolinek, County Commissioner Ray Meadows. Threatened to charge them with trespassing. They can on the roadside, in the ditch, but not where they were. (I think it's going to be a battle of intimidation.) Sheriff left for the moment. (Can you just hear whiny, cowardly, bring-it-on, but not-the-big-bad-grieving-mom-who-scares-me... Can you hear him getting someone on his staff to scream at the locals to get rid of this woman, so he doesn't have to?)

3. Why send in the SS
When apparently, there are enough inbred, cream of tobacco soup-eating, functionally illiterate local lackeys willing to do the dirty work?

and not being asked to leave the area. I'm not saying that this is not a form of intimidation, at the least from the property owner -- just being sure the post is understood before we react.

11. Too bad the asshole property owner isn't a bit more sympathetic.
The Cops or Bush's people most certainly paid them a visit to find out if they minded these folks being on the property.

6. It might be private property they are on.
It might work out if they just ask the owner of the land for permission to park there. Most people are pretty okay with stuff if you ask and clean up after yourself.

Of course, if the owner of the land is a Bushbot, it's useless.

8. It is private property, Ilsa -- see the post and my post above....

This is the issue. I don't think they're being told they have to leave the area or face arrest. And you're right about the property owner, whoever he/she is.

24. Somebody tell them to check the property/tax maps at the local city hall.
EVERY roadway has easements and setbacks that are usually a minimum of 20 feet or more.

EVERY locality has it, unless it's a private road. NO EXCEPTIONS.

The rules are very similar no matter what part of the country you are in.

The pavement or roadway is also uniformly composed of 12 foot wide lanes - 24-25 feet wide for a single lane each direction.

Rights of way are at the smallest 60 feet wide.

10. I really wish...
...some local rancher or other person--who owns land--would support Cindy and allow these protesters to use their land.

There has to be someone--ANYONE--in Crawford who would be willing to host protesters and help out this cause.

I can't imagine that they've all drank the Kool-Aid there.

Then again, maybe it flows through the pipes there. You never know.

13. A local came by and said they hated the war and
supported Cindy.

When asked if their land could be used though, they were worried about retaliation -- eminent domain!

Slain soldier’s mother keeps protest vigil at Bush ranch

By Oren Dorell
USA Today

CRAWFORD, Texas — Biting bugs. Baking sun. The cold shoulder from residents. To Cindy Sheehan, they’re just obstacles to be overcome in her quest for a meeting with President Bush at his ranch here in central Texas.
The mother of a soldier killed in Iraq, Sheehan, 48, of Vacaville, Calif., is camping near the president’s ranch. She’s set up on a narrow strip of land between the hardtop of Prairie Chapel Road and a drainage ditch.

“I plan on staying here the entire month of August or until he comes out to talk to me,” she says. Bush is spending five weeks at his ranch.

22. Funny thing is -if chimpy or turd blossom or another one of the
major chumps down there had just come out and spoken with Mrs. Sheehan -- made their phony apologies about her son, gave her a few minute of their precious time -- this all would have died down and gone away very quickly. But they're too stupid (and too prideful or ashamed or guilty or something?) to do the easy, most expedient thing, even for themselves. Their stupidity astounds me!!!
