CNN Poll: Bush approval rating still low, growing dissatisfaction with war

Monday, August 8, 2005; Posted: 7:25 p.m. EDT (23:25 GMT)

http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/08/08/bush.poll/index.html

(CNN) -- President Bush's approval rating remains among the lowest of his presidency, with some Americans growing increasingly dissatisfied with the Iraq war, according to a new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released Monday.

Forty-five percent of those polled said they approve of Bush's handling of his job, compared with 51 percent who said they are dissatisfied.

The rating is up just slightly -- 1 percentage point -- from a poll late last month when Bush had a 44 percent approval rating, the lowest of his presidency.

He twice before hit the 45 percent mark in the poll, in June and March of this year.

1. Bush Rocks
I mean, yeah, he's an evil dictator hell bent on world domination but he has two wonderful traits that makes him the coolest. The first is he's stupid which makes watching his idiotic blunders enjoyable and yet ever-so-slightly terrifying. The second is the fact that he is ever-so-slightly terrifying and that keeps me glued to the plot. All in all as evil dictators hell bent on world domination go, he fuckin rocks man. That Stalin guy was a dick, definitely not fun. Hitler would have been pretty funny towards the end but he was just too fuckin creepy. Bush, he's one of a kind, baby.

3. Every time when I read about this I can't help but thinking: so what
they won. We are stuck with him for 3.5 more years.

Unless we come come with real alternatives to him and to his voodoo policies of economic and security, we will lose again and again.

I think that many old-fashioned conservatives start realizing the monster that they have created, when Bush no longer just follows script but tries to interject his own ideas - creationism, for example.

But we have to come with real alternatives and we need to communicate them in simple way that the average voter can understand. We need to talk about security of jobs, of access to health care, of retirement. We need to find a way to meet abortion and gay marriage heads on and dispose of them as important but as distraction from the real issues. We cannot let Rove and company dictate the tone and the direction of the debate - the way he so successfully done in the last three rounds.
