NY Democrats have finally gotten it together

In 2000, Republicans tried to stop Hillary Clinton by calling her a carpetbagger who was too liberal even for a Democratic state. It didn't work. Clinton rolled easily to her Senate seat. And (whatever her motive) she has pushed a mostly moderate agenda and often worked closely with Republicans.

Now, the state GOP seems to think it can stop her re-election next year by rolling out the same tired themes - that she is only using the state to get back to the White House. That the words are being mouthed not by then-Rep. Rick Lazio but by Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro - a sharp and similarly ambitious, suburban-based woman - doesn't make them any more effective.

The rhetoric in Pirro's Monday announcement reaffirms that the state GOP - which has no viable successor to Gov. George Pataki - remains in lackluster limbo with little to encourage voters who value a robust two-party system.

What does this mean for Democrats? They would seem unrecognizable to the likes of Will Rogers, who said: "I'm not a member of any organized party; I'm a Democrat."

2. Hill, needs to serve her full term and not run for POTUS.

That is the point they will attack her on, and I am not at all confident that her vacated seat wouldn't be filled by a RW because of it.

It's a shame that this "Hillary for President" nonsense hinders support of her as a Senator and as a party leader.

She's never ran for President. She's never formed an exploratory committee to see about running for President. She's never raised money to run for President. She's never entered a Presidential Primary. She's never even said that she'd like to run for the Presidency.

The right wing media has always said "Hillary's running for President" in order to portray her as power mad, and to take away from her accomplishments.

"Can you name one accomplishment of Hillary Clinton in the Senate?" is one of their standard rhetorical questions when it comes to talking about her. They used the same rhetorical question to great effect against John Kerry in the 2004 Election.

I don't think she will be our Presidential Nominee in 2008. I do think they are going to build their Election 2006 propaganda around the Hillary vs. Rudy Senate Race, in order to make every race a National referendum on her.

It's difficult to be put in the position of supporting her, while at the same time knocking down the "Hillary's Running for President nonsense, but I believe that it's an important thing to do.

6. Thats pretty much the way I see it and at least hope for it.

Hillary will win out over anybody in a Senate run in NY, especially if she leads them on (but not for too long)about a presidential bid only to confirm she will indeed fufill her senatorial obligations in full, timing will be tricky though. If she lets that kind of smear go overlong, the voting public just might not believe her or never heard she already said no to a POTUS run.

We need every dem we can get into the senate even if its only to yell about them every time they vote leaning right.

I think I actually read that thread when it was first posted, it was my b-day and I actually took some comfort in it.

3. Does it ever occur to anyone that perhaps the Republicans

might want Hillary to run? If she loses they win, certainly they can rally their base against her, and if she wins, they win. She positions herself as non-threatening, but she has enormous liabilities from both sides and lots of baggage. She can't even rally the majority on Iraq. She does have lots of ambition though, and with the corporate media gunning to push her bandwagon maybe she can win with the clueless center alone- which is most susceptible to sweeping fads and trends.

After she is reelected to the U.S. Senate in '06, Hillary should serve out her full term, and then decide in 2012 whether she wants to run for a third term as senator or retire from Congress.
