Hillary faces a little local difficulty
August 10, 2005

From Tom Baldwin in Washington

HILLARY CLINTON’S hopes of a smooth progression back to the White House in 2008 could yet be dashed on the jagged rock of Jeanine Pirro, a hard-hitting Republican who this week announced that she will fight the former First Lady for her seat in the US Senate.

Although Mrs Clinton, 57, is favourite to be re-elected by New York state voters next year, a fierce challenge from Ms Pirro threatens to soak up millions of dollars of campaign funds and, more importantly, time ahead of the next presidential contest.

Ms Pirro, the 54-year-old district attorney in the New York suburb of Westchester County, has wasted no time in accusing Mrs Clinton of using the state as a “doormat” to the White House by refusing to commit for a full second term as senator. While polls show she has strong approval ratings, one in three of her supporters says she should pledge to serve another six years in the senate.

Mrs Clinton insists that she is fully focused on the contest but, if she is re-elected next year, the hot favourite for the Democratic presidential nomination is likely to begin campaigning almost immediately in the race for a return to the White House which she left in 2001 at the end of her husband’s eight years in office.

1. Guess its ok when Repugs won't commit to their full terms
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 09:17 AM by Wickerman
Bush** couldn't finish out his full term either, and as I recall would make no statement that he would finish out a 2nd term if the plumb job came up.

I googled, but couldn't find anything so its all my faulty memory here.

2. What kind of horsesh*t issue is "serving out your term," anyway?
Lessee, I don't want to vote for a Senator because the Senator might turn out to be President?

wow, that'd be just terrible for my state!

3. Keep your options open Hillary.
Don't let the Republicans box you in on this issue.

4. I agree Hillary should commit to a full term BUT
anyone who thinks Pirro is a serious threat to her reelection has to be doing heavy drugs. This is just an attempt to hurt Hillary's chances in 2008 (which I think she should avoid, by the way) by NY's version of Katharine Harris. After going down in flames, I'm sure Pirro will be in line for some sort of reward from a grateful Bushworld, maybe even an Ambassadorship, who knows?

What anyone with a brain knows is that Hillary is pretty well unbeatable in NYS, no matter what the media might claim. This race will get lots of coverage because of what is behind it, not because it will be any sort of a real race at all.

MSM and GOPukes, whores together.

5. Pirro isn't even the Repub nominee yet
And if she becomes it, she's hardly frightening. The media is just trying to play her up as a serious candidate. Hillary is popular in my great state of New York and won't lose to this shrill lady with a corrupt husband or any other pathetic nominee the NY GOP comes up with.
