ClearChannel Stations to Host Anti-Sheehan BBQ
Edited on Wed Aug-10-05 02:00 PM by patrioticliberal
Update <2005-8-10 14:38:27 by patrioticliberal>: As someone posted below in a comment (JUST CONFIRMED), KLFX ("KLFX 107.3 The Fox Rocks") and their group stations, as well as KWTX 1230 AM (Waco) - 1-254-776-3900 (FOX NEWS RADIO), 102.5 FM,, and one more that is forgotten at this time, will be at the PRO-BUSH/ANTI-SHEEHAN rally. They are owned by Clear Channel. The Anti-Sheehan BBQ will be in the lot next to Crawford Bank, free burgers, soft drinks ("Coca-Cola"), and everything Saturday at NOON. a host named "JACK HAMMER" will be there and apparently is helping with this event. They are inviting soldiers from the Fort Hood area to come down and say that they would be ashamed of their mother if she did what Mrs. Sheehan is doing. Protest to KLFX! Their number is 1-254-699-5000, and YES, I'm keeping that number here. It's also publicly accessible http://www.ontheradio.net/radiostations/klfxfm.aspx

Joe Trippi has posted this at JoeTrippi.com and it is crossposted at Democrats.com as a plea for help for Cindy Sheehan, who is sick.

I just got off of the phone with Jodie Evans, who is with Cindy in Crawford right now. They had 3 and a half inches of rain last night. The camp is flooded, all of their supplies are soaked. Even worse, Cindy is running a fever and has a sore throat.

They really need your help. We are trying to dig out anyone who can volunteer to go to the camp and bring them fresh materials - umbrellas, chairs, blankets, etc... They are having a terrible time acquiring these things on their own, so they really are depending on us to help them out quickly.

If anyone can do anything to help, please send an email to meetwithcindy@gmail.com - we can answer questions, give you directions, or send Cindy your thoughts.

Thanks,

Joe

We can't let Cindy down!

Please help Cindy Sheehan if you can as Joe mentions above. Ignore the poll if you don't like it (I can't delete it), but PLEASE help Cindy.

Update <2005-8-10 13:11:45 by patrioticliberal>:Please recommend this diary so others can help Cindy. And yes, I'll keep the email for meetwithcindy here; if it's posted at Joe Trippi's site and at Democrats.com, it'll be posted here. Stop whining and actually help. Thanks :) .

DIRECT LINK TO HELP: http://www.crawfordpeacehouse.org

Update <2005-8-10 13:11:45 by patrioticliberal>: IN ADDITION: Organizers are asking for donations of the following items, which they will deliver to Crawford: food and water, coffee, tarps/ canopy, flashlights and batteries, wet wipes, bug spray, ice chests/ ice, camcorders, Gatorade or Emergen-C, and spray misters. The organizers include he American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), Code Pink, United for Peace and Justice, and Veterans for Peace.

CELESTE ZAPALA says that if you are going to "Camp Casey", please park at Crawford Peace House. There is no room at "Camp Casey" for your truck.

1. That's sad.
Anyone who would support or attend something like this knows in the back of their mind how absolutely wrong they are.

17. inviting soldiers to come down and say that they would be ashamed of their
mothers if she did what Mrs. Sheehan is doing? Like there's any chance of that happening.

You know scumpugs will dress a handful of yokels in uniform hand him/her a script and do interviews. When you think about it, it still says a helluva alot for Cindy to cause/draw this kind attention and concern.

fuckem! we're use to this shit by now, Bush has done it hundreds if not thousands of times! no biggie!

76. The purpose of this
Is not really about Cindy Sheehan. It's about isolating her and keeping others from publicly agreeing with her - especially relatives of those killed. It is to make them feel ashamed for agreeing with her, as if there would be something wrong with them if they did so. It's about getting other people to just shut up.

It's manipulation, pure and simple, and those who partake don't even know they are being used as pawns.

94. Some
of them want to be used. They don't care who they have to crush in order to justify the cause in their own mind. This is a nice woman who under different circumstances they would treat well. Yet in a war environment, as someone who goes against the grain, they feel the need to destroy her. I'm amazed at the human trait in which many people would rather lose their lives and sacrifice their loved ones rather than lose their ideology.

BTW, did you get my email a few weeks ago? I was trying to determine if I can send private messages. I guess I can't because I'm a new member.

11. They "HAVE TO" Do These Things!
Clear Channel is the same corporation that pretended, a while ago, that there was a "huge uprising against" the Dixie Chicks for their wonderful anti-Bush comments, then could not even produce documented e-mails or anything else even at a Senate subcommittee hearing (Commerce etc., the one both Barbara Boxer and McCain are on) on the subject of media pressure, censorship, sponsor control of content, etc. Then of course, the Dixie Chicks went on to have a #1 CD and completely sold-out concert tour--some of the best sales figures of their careers. Right--not popular. They pretended that their censorship of the Dixie Chicks was "necessary," and based on the opinions of their listeners, and that they had no choice but to censor them. At least now, that lie is over.

32. Here's a solution to the Clear Channel/AAR thing...
You go get iPodder from sourceforge. It lets you subscribe to podcasts, which you can listen to whenever you like. All the AAR programs are available. It's kinda like TIVO only for radio. You listen when it's convenient for you.

We need to hope US military personnel are just as loving and loyal to mothers as the Soviet soldiers were when they refused to fire on protesters including old women back at the collapse of the USSR.

But I fear it more likely our troops could also be more medicated than their old Soviet counterparts. That does worry me some.

I told the receptionst mant vets will be offended by their action. When the receptionist tried to hang up on me, somehow, I now have an open line and can hear her answering all the phone lines.

I heard her tell one caller, they're not sponsoring the rally, just covering ait as members of the media - that they'll be two rallies - one on each side of the isuue. He said, great, you're starting a riot!

She just told someone she's received 150 - 200 phone calls.

I didn't even realize the line was still open for a couple minutes. Then when I heard her voice answering other lines and talking to people, I started yelling, "Can you hear me?". I finally realized i had a one-way connection and could just listen. The best stuff happened in the first couple minutes but it stayed open a while. I might just call again tomorrow. Wouldn't want them to think we respond emotionally and give up!

at the station office in Waco. He's it's just a pro-troops rally. I asked him how long it's been in planning. He says three days!

He says Cindy is getting all the coverage and the other side isn't getting out! I replied that she's being vilified in the RW national media.

He tried to correct himself by saying no one is telling Crawford's side in this - that the mayor and city council have been consulted and are in favor of the rally. I replied that there's no need to hold a rally to hear from the council is there?

I ended by telling him he's inviting trouble and said trouble is on his head.

Moran!

78. ohtransplant, You have some very important info that you need to
share with the Crawford peace house, email or CALL. What you are saying is that that the mayor and city council have been consulted and are in favor of the rally and there fore are inciting a possible riot.
That the peace house should demand an answer as to why they would promote a potentially dangerous and explosive situation. Would the citizens of Crawford appreciate their city officials promoting the possibility of kaos in their city streets, that may be harmful to the welfare of its citizens and property!

ohtransplant, you have to do this, that is info that could shut them down. You hold a key, give them all the info you have!

52. Casey was stationed at Fort Hood
Wasn't he? I'm fairly certain. The soldiers there are family. This is not going to go over very well.

Do the wingnuts have any idea how badly this is going to backfire? I hope they don't.

Cindy will not hesitate to talk to these soldiers. And there's no way they won't respond to her.

The depth of the wingnuts' stupidity never fails to astound me.

:hi:

Please don't underestimate them. Yes, they can make mistakes - and this is probably going to be a BIG one for them. But they're NOT stupid. And we perpetuate this dangerous meme at our own risk, because it tends to make us underestimate them and Average Joe sympathize with them.

Please read "The Art of War" by Sun Tsu.

58. I knew I liked you
:hi: I read "The Art of War" many years ago. Brilliant book!

I didn't mean that they are literally stupid, but that their arrogance is making them blind in this case. My bad. I didn't explain well enough. I meant that they automatically assume that the troops are with THEM and won't be with Cindy. Either that or they feel that NONE of the troops will be with Cindy, so there couldn't possibly be a confrontation that will make them look any worse. Casey was from Fort Hood! The wingnuts are messing with these soldiers' family when they mess with Casey's mom! So, call it what you will: arrogance, ignorance, stupidity, or total lack of empathy - it's all going to blow up in their faces. :patriot:

The best the wingnuts can hope for is that the few soldiers who will toe the line for them won't get their butts kicked too badly by the soldiers who stand with Cindy. And that'll look great in the SCLM, won't it? Soldier vs. soldier, fighting each other in the good ol' USA, all because of the wingnuts' arrogance. Soldiers have been killing themselves at Fort Hood, it's been in the news. Do the wingnuts really believe the soldiers will flock to their side?!

I hope all the soldiers, no matter which side they choose to acknowledge with their support this weekend, eat all of Clear Channel's food.

55. Sounds like they are asking for MAJOR trouble.
Many of the supporters there are Veterans for Peace and familiy members of Iraq soldiers with a fierce loyalty toward Cindy.

It is shameful and foolhardy to ask soldiers to take sides against a mother who lost a son in this war!

(Not to mention inviting the wrath of already pissed off veterans.)

60. Yes, they certainly are doing that
AT BEST, they're going to get a public display of soldiers on each side of the debate and that will highlight for the public that the troops are NOT in lockstep over this issue or any other. Cindy's already had one soldier from Fort Hood visit her. He brought his mom, too. So, so much for universal support for the wingnuts! Bring on the public display.

Works for me. As long as nobody is injured. Permanently injured, I mean.

64. Thinking of sending this email to the general manager of KWTX AM
"Dear sir,

In regards to the BBQ that your station will be involved with this Saturday, which I have been led to believe will be in support of President Bush and against Cindy Sheehan, I have one question.

Does it not strike you, sir, that if a person is standing against a woman who has lost her son in Iraq that perhaps that person is standing on the wrong side. What could President Bush have to fear regarding a grieving mother. Why would a BBQ need to be organized against such woman. Do you not honor her sacrifice?

I can only assume your station's motive is money. I hope your listeners enjoy the red meat you're throwing them. Enjoy your added revenue.

I fear, however, that you have put yourself on a road headed for a place that will make Texas look like Alaska. May you enjoy your stay there as well."

What do you think? I haven't hit send yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a major pilgrimage to Crawford on Saturday.

Mothers, veterans, and anyone who's sick and tired of * and his lying, smearing thugs will saddle up to attend.

I bet GE/NBC/MSNBC will cover this one!

They may have just hit the hornet's nest with a stick!

70. Aw, let 'em yammer against their mothers, or let their mothers yammer
about how they would love to sacrifice their son or daughter for George's oil buddies. It's so pathetic.

Where we need to get serious is election system reform, so that we can regain the power of our majority--in an actual election--and bust monopolies like Clear Channel and all the other death-mongers. Nothing we can do about them until we recover our right to vote.

is encouraging them to break the 4th Commandment--"Honor thy father and thy mother that your days may be long upon the land the Lord thy God giveth thee." This is a real example of moral values. NOT!!

On second thought, maybe most of the folks attending will be "security personnel" or something.

You know some of the right-wing nutjobs will not be able to contain themselves and will give even a worse blackeye to their credibility than they now have. Imagine: partying and having fun at the expense of a fallen soldier's mother's grief. That's just not going to go over to the moderates in this country.
