Don Imus was discussing a visit by Jonh Kerry this morning... |
|
...Said Kerry stopped at his ranch driving a Ford pickup towing his motorcycle. He said that Kerry rode a "cutting horse" with a great deal of skill and that he (Imus) was certain that Kerry was a better horseman than Bush. I have seen mentioned here by some that Bush is afraid of horses, that he has none at his ranch, and I don't recall ever seeing a picture of him on one.Is this in fact true? I mean, when he dressed up as a fighter pilot he made sure to have an aircraft carrier for window dressing.... IF true we should push to get the msm to admit he is in fact "All hat and no cattle". Folks could call in and ask where are the pictures of our mounted "Cowboy" President...What do you call a rancher that's afraid of horses? A pedestrian....

Pretty well known that bush is afraid of horses. Will Ferrell did a hilarious spoof video based on that fact. You can see it here... http://www.heavy.com/viral/ferrell/

livestock outside of his pick up. Any cutting horses are ridden by the hands when they move the rented cattle from field to field.

14. Just as with horses, that sentence implies Bush is better than he is |
|
Kerry is a very good pilot and, if you take Imus's word, skilled at riding horses. Bush LOST his flighing priviledges and is scared of horses. For good measure, Kerry just rode in a 180 mile Pan-Massachutes bike race to benefit cancer research which he has participated in before. So, I think you can also say he is a better cyclist - especially as he doesn't fall on his face. Kerry also was very good as an amature playing hockey to benefit MA firemen. Bush on skates is fun to think of.
More importantly, he was a better debater, thinker, and he pocesses both a working heart and conscience.

16. Imus is nicer to those who come on his show |
|
Last year, Imus made this huge issue about Kerry not stopping at the ranch and disappointing the kids. Maybe Kerry had some reason to be in NM and realized that seeing Imus at the ranch and riding horses would get Imus to stop making some of unfair comments. Or, he may have stopped to see the kids.

18. the Kerry-Imus connection |
|
Last year, Kerry was riding his campaign train through the SW. In fact, that particular track runs through Imus' property; IIRC a few miles from the main ranch buildings. Kerry had indicated he would stop the train and meet with the kids - and Don of course. Kerry was running late and perhaps due to schedulers' (campaign and MSNBC) not coordinating the meeting time or some other miscommunication, the train did not stop. Imus felt slighted and bitched about it for several days, to the point IMHO, he was being even more grandiose than normal. Sometimes Don is pretty funny, but his regular guest goons I cannot stand, and don't listen any more.

20. I could be wrong, but I think somebody mentioned at the time |
|
that there was a bad thunderstorm in the area too. Nothing to mess with, that, if true. We consistently have the highest lightning death rate (per capita) in the country. ******
So Kerry rides cutting horses?? Damn, that's impressive. Folks, if you ever get a chance to see cutting horses in action, by all means do it. It's an equine ballet.
Finally, this horse thing has been bugging me for some time. As a lifelong rider myself, I am continually outraged that Bush, who can't even ride a bicycle, has managed to convince people that he's an honest to god cowboy.
Now, Kerry isn't the only real rider on our side; there's Wes Clark, Bill Richardson, Brian Schweitzer (right?), and probably a heap more that I either don't know about or haven't thought of.
So my advice to the DNC?
GET SOME FILM AND GET IT OUT THERE! You want to win the West in 2006/2008? DO IT NOW.

27. Read your replies. Think IMUS is a Pig/Whore and his Ranch is Fake. |
|
There...I've said it...it's a weight off my shoulders. Anyone who would consort with IMUS is an IDIOT. The Clintons learned when IMUS trashed Hillary...(just remember that if Laura Bush had wanted Health Care for All the little Chimp would have Championed it and PUSHED IT THROUGH!)
Hillary was accused of KILLING Vince Foster who came into that admistration very naive...and then there was Ken Starr and Clinton's huge incident with Monica.
We need to understand what we are up against. It doesn't seem to be going away...in fact it's grown STRONGER.

33. Imus is an asshole. His ranch is real--totally unlike the |
|
pig farm in Crawford.
It's a 3000-acre working cattle ranch about an hour northeast of Santa Fe. You know: real cows, real horses, real cowboys?
That's the point. Kids with cancer get to come and be--or at least be around--real cowboys for a few weeks every summer.

23. Wuss. If a horse doesn't try to kill you the first couple of |
|
times you ride it, that animal ain't worth shit.
Horses are herd animals--they test you to see where you fit in the pecking order, to see if you're an Alpha or otherwise. If you stand up to them (without brutality, of course) and don't take any crap, they're yours for life.

i came within a half inch of having a powerline spike driven into the back of my head and horses, at that point, were the least of my concerns. That will take your breath away. Then there was the total body bruise and the broken coccyx.
I don't care for the beasts. It is my prerogative. Nor will I sign any petetions on their behalf.

28. Too bad Kerry didn't do this during the campeign |
|
Riding a cutting horse takes alot of skill because you're mastering both the horse and the cow--well actually the horse is controlling the cow and you're simultaneously controlling the horse and giving him the freedom he needs to move with the cow on his own. If you can't ride you're going to end up on the ground.
Riding a working ranch horse not only has a nice macho touch but it's about as anti-elitist as you can get. Would have looked a hell of a lot better than wind surfing imho and would have called out rancher boy for the phony he is.

31. He did play hockey during the campeign--pretty good too. |
|
Problem was he was always dressed to kill when he did his sports--I always thought he should have worn old cutoffs or something when he rode his bike instead of being dressed up like a 7 foot bumblebee in black and yellow spandex no less. Same thing with the windsurfing--plain old bathing trunks would have looked better than that wet suit he wore.
Bush walks around his pig farm in a denim shirt and cowboy hat and he looks like a good ol' boy.

37. Hunting might have worked in the right circumstances. |
|
Dressed up in brand new camos with a borrowed dog hunting with a bunch of stangers the guy looked like a jerk.
Hanging out with a bunch of old hunting buddies looking like a normal guy out for a day in the woods--assuming he actually does hunt--would have humanized the guy.
One thing about riding a horse--especially a highly trained animal like a cutting horse--you can either do it or you can't--you can't bullshit a horse.
Of course Kerry's handlers would probably have the poor man decked out like Roy Rodgers in drag.

39. The odd thing is Bush was not called on |
|
real "dressing up". He was not qualified as a pilot when he "flew the plane" that landed on the ship for mission accomplished and in fact had his flying privileges taken away in the TANG. He has appeared in pseudo-military style befitting a petty dictator. He also has a "ranch" that seems to have no horses or livestock. The press NEVER called him on this.
Kerry, who actually does compete in long charity bike races, dressed similarly to all the bikers I saw on the clip of the Pan-Massachusetts 180 mile bike ride that he rode in this month. Either the other riders all decided to dress up too or Kerry did dress appropriately for this sport. Apparently windsurfers also dress as he did. He also wore hockey clothes when he played a charity game. The point being he WAS doing the things he was pictured doing and he was dressed appropriately for that.
On the Senate floor and when traveling abroad as a Senator, his dress and behavior was always appropriate. No Cheney-like ski-parkas on solemn occasions. That you say his riding a "cutting horse" would look like PR is interesting - as he did this earlier this week, it was clearly something he enjoyed, it would not be fake.
My guess is that the problem was that Kerry wouldn't stay in the box the media wanted to define him as. They wanted to define him as an aloof, boring Northeastern intellectual snob who no one would want to have a beer with. (In reality, the Kerrys might be the most interesting couple in DC to share conversation and any beverage with - certainly compared to George and Laura.)

|
tin-eared idiot losers like Bob Schrum, and has the confidence to follow his own instincts this time.
I've read that he was furious and wanted to go after the swift boat liars with guns blazing, but Schrum and Cahill talked him out of it. His ex-wife was equally furious, and contacted the campaign offering her help in rebutting their lies. She was politely brushed off.
