2. Too bad the link isn't hot yet. Sen. Pat Roberts is "my" Senator.
In the way that this country is "my" country . . .

21. Short of him having a massive heart attack--and we can hope, can't we--
no, he's in there for 'effing life.

Bastard.

Now it turns out he's going to probe Fitzgerald's investigation just to muddy up the waters apparently . . .

24. Well, I'll pray hard for justice. Maybe it'll come in the form of that
heart attack.

Really, why did my mom have to have one? She was SUCH a good person and did so much good in this world.. but POSs like the Thief in chief and his cronies just go on and on and on. x(

4. Thanks for the heads up
I'll be checking in with Raw Story to see what they have to report about this.

A while back, I was following some important threads here at DU re: Niger doc forgeries, Wilson, Plame, etc. and read the Senate Intelligence Committee's report re: Iraq Intel. What a fucking chaotic piece of shit that report was. One other poster, can't recall his/her name, also pointed out how confusing that report was.

It's a bunch of he said/she said garbage that really does more to confuse the issue than to shed any truth to the whole matter. Much of the conclusions was where the rightwing propaganda got their talking points slamming Wilson ("he lied") because of the way they presented him in this report.

I was skeptical then and remain heartened that Raw Story may have uncovered something tangible in this matter.

Jeesh, I was never one to trust our government much, but these "special" investigative committees are really pissin' me off. Will we have NO ONE in positions of authority that will speak truth to power and dare to open pandora's box? The American people are the real losers here.

If you haven't read the report, it can be found at this link (PDF). The section on Niger, and the various conclusions are worth reading if you can't stomach the prolixity (i.e., bullshit).

7. Isn't John Kerry on that committee?
If so, what does that mean? He was in on it? Or excluded from the Republican meetings?

During the 2004 campaign, I would always wonder why: Bush people would say the Dems looked at the same intelligence, and Kerry would never say that Bush manipulated the intelligence before they got it. There's so much fucked up corruption going on, it's hard to know who to trust.

8. His last year on it was 2000, I believe.
Wasn't Edwards on it, though? Doesn't matter. The Dems on the committee were in the minority.

9. Kerry served on that committee
Edited on Thu Aug-11-05 01:13 PM by paulk
from 1993 - 2000.

Which was before 9/11 happened.
And before the Bush administration took office
So your questions aren't relevant.

These things are easy to look up, you know...

27. what's right with immediately jumping to the wrong conclusion?
and then making a post insinuating that Kerry was somehow helping the Bush administration cover up bad intelligence?

But it is an important point for all of us to understand that Kerry and every other Senator that voted for authorization of the use of force WERE NOT ON THE SAME PAGE as the folks making the case for war.

This revelation about the Presidential order limiting Congressional oversight (which in itself is a violation of the separation of powers, and probably would not withstand a court challenge) gives

HUUUGE

political cover to every Senator and Representative who voted to authorize force. The order is the big lie embodied in bureaucratic procedure--the smoking gun extrordinaire of this corrupt administration.

The Congress was not being informed (or in another sense--not practicing oversight...), and all of the blame for this war folls squarely on the Elite Eight and the Executive branch. Rockefeller has been a tool, Harman has been no better, Daschle had no balls, and Pelosi--while having political balls--had no way to get the word out (word which she probably never got, the admin dinks being what they are...)

In my eyes, the whole lot of them share responsibility for a lack of oversight. But I will extend some understanding due the extreme level of corruption in the Exec branch. (Some, but not much).

We have to clean out the whole septic tank here, and that starts by digging away at the dirt, finding the lid, and popping it open for that first few unbearable minutes of methane and putrification stench that must inevitably follow. Then we can get to the job of cleaning things up and getting them back into working order..

Actually, that metaphor hardly does justice to the rot that our government has become---

Kurt

Last week I posted a question in a certain DU group and got my head ripped off.

Let's all try to be a bit more civil.

28. I'm sick and tired of people always assuming the worst
about Kerry and Democrats in general, when a 5 second google search will reveal the entire premise as foolish.

There are honest questions

and there are leading questions

and, yes, DU has made me very thin skinned

25. Kerry sent Intel Committee letter urging Downing Street Memo inquiry
and nine other Senators signed onto it.

It was actually a call for the Committee to FINISH their job. Roberts has been refusing to finish the second stage of the inquiry that deals with WH use of Iraq intel.

Where is Phase II of the Intel Committies review - the one that looks at how the lies were kept in the SOTU speech that took us to war.
