WTF-Our embassies in Saudia Arabia have shut down?????
Why isn't this BIG news anywhere? I haven't even seen it on the internet and I'm scanning things every day!

Losing the Middle East

"Most of those who listen to, watch or read the so-called “mainstream” national media are probably unaware that the U.S. embassy and consulates in Saudi Arabia were shut down this week due to “specific and credible” threats against American interests. On July 30, the 35,000 Americans in Saudi Arabia, one of our supposedly staunch allies in the Persian Gulf, were advised by the American embassy to leave the country. A similar advisory for Americans to leave the country was issued the same day in Kuwait, another of our great “allies.” In both cases, Americans in the area have been advised to exercise extreme caution when frequenting “Western” establishments and to change their travel habits regularly."

:wtf:

1. There was a report
from Reuters, I think it was last week or last weekend. Caught it on DU but nothing else. I thought it would be a big story too but nothing.

3. And remember, one of Osama bin Laden's stated goals:
Drive the infidels -- by that he means Americans, primarily -- out of the holy land. Meaning Saudi Arabia.

Another one in the so-called "win" column for the man who directed the 9-11 attacks. And who remains free today, courtesy of George Bush.

:grr:

5. I did a search and found just one blip in the NYT.
It didn't mention anything about Kuwait either. Pretty pitiful coverage! Damn MSM!

7. I wonder why they (Saudi and Kuwait) is doing this?
Just maybe, they know we're going to invade Iran and they want no part of our invasion?

8. Or we are about to take over?
Things are getting more desperate by the day. Does anyone think we need to take over SA to get our oil? I'd bet most Americans would say: Why not?

10. I don't think it's Saudia Arabia and Kuwait doing it.
I think it's probably orders from the U.S. State Department. Per the NYT - "the embassy took the unusual, but not unprecedented, decision to close the embassy in the Saudi capital"

12. There were some threats deemed credible enough to take
action on. They were against embassies and consulates.

Not the first time. Probably not the last time.

It's routine when that happens that you keep your employees out of harm's way: you shut down the targets, if at all possible, until the danger's passed.

Just because they've closed the consulates (in one meaning of the word) doesn't mean they've closed the consulate (in a second meaning of the word).

Polysemy is such a difficult concept to grasp.

13. Why? 'Cause we're about to nuke Iran? And the U.S. fears for the
safety of our officials in the ME?

Makes sense to me.
