Christopher Walken for President 2008!
Actor Christopher Walken to run as Candidate in 2008 Presidential Race
For Immediate Release

New York - Early today, actor Christopher Walken, 62, held a private conference at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York in which he announced his intentions to run for the Presidency of the United States in the 2008 Election.

Said the Queens native, “I have always been a follower of politics. My father was friends with the mayor of Schodack (NY) back in the 1940’s. We would walk the streets of Schodack and the people, they would wave to him. The children adored him. That is what I love to be, a man of respect and love.”

From a statement by Walken's agent, Toni Howard: “Mr. Walken has greatly admired the celebrities who have entered politics and he wants to be able to give a good name and reputation to the acting community as well as the political community. As for going national with this news we have not made any plans for the immediate future."

Because Mr. Walken is currently contracted for more than one film production, the Walken campaign manager Michael Hansee admitted that there would be relatively minimal publicity at this early stage. " has a full plate right now, acting in a number of different films, and can't start any personal campaign work until these obligations are fulfilled," he commented. "We're looking to spread the word and build a little support base with our website, in preparation for a full campaign in early 2007."

The campaign website is patriotic-themed, with the tag-line "To Get America Back on Track." Hansee stated that the campaign is hoping to drum up early support through their online presence, much like Howard Dean did in the 2004 race.

This won't be the first actor to run.

On edit: although he will be the first good actor to run.

7. It made me laugh...!
every time I get champagne for New Years I pull the "shampan-yuh" stunt when we open it and start doing snippets from Walken's "Hotel Continental" skit. My husband is a little tired of it but I just can't help myself. :-)

19. Our great country is in a terrible downward spiral
Edited on Sat Aug-13-05 08:27 PM by IanDB1
"Our great country is in a terrible downward spiral. We're outsourcing jobs, bankrupting social security, and losing lives at war. We need to focus on what's important-- paying attention to our children, our citizens, our future. We need to think about improving our failing educational system, making better use of our resources, and helping to promote a stable, safe, and tolerant global society. It's time to be smart about our politics. It's time to get America back on track."
-- Christopher Walken

It doesn't sound like he's running as a Republican.

Why does he pick some of the creepiest pictures of himself to put on his website?

20. Liberal issues, Conservative tone.
A complete outsider that has the ability to say a line, a simple line and have it stick. We have seen him take a simple line, live and onstage, and make it memorable. We have seen him play an angel so darkly. I don't see him losing. If he can resolve the Rove issue, I don't see anyone defeating him.

Hint to Walken: If the opposition even meets with Rove, Respond, "Now I have to win, a man who consorts with traitors must not lead our Nation."

31. Huge Walken fan here, too...
I always think of the line, "and you're a canteloupe" from True Romance. He and Dennis Hopper were amazing in that scene.

Did you ever see Walken and Susan Sarandon in a Hallmark TV movie from the earliest 80s (maybe even 79), "Who Am I This Time?" It's really an amazing tele-movie.

he might be able to do the deed. Walken is a pretty cool frood, definitely not a light weight. Still, the whole idea of Gabriel running for President has my head ready to explode.

36. Did you see the sequels?
The three movies present a cohesive cycle. The rebel Gabriel is taken to Hell, and rejected by the Devil (well played by Viggo Mortenson) is cast back on earth to be eventually made human. Wherein he discovers pain, suffering, pleasure and compassion ... and is redeemed. Mythic stuff, really ...

39. Funny you should ask...
I have all of them. I just built a bookshelf to house all my videos. I cleaned all of them as they went on the shelves and felt very shocked as I placed Prophecy 1, 2 and 3...because I didn't realize I had been so affected that I had collected them all! ;-)

You are correct in your summation - just plain mythic in its totality.

I wasn't posting it as an endorsement of Walken by any means. For the record, I don't endorse ANYBODY for 2008 yet, and don't plan on doing so until 2007 at the earliest.

Having said that, there are things on Walken's site which sound better than any of the candidates that the You-Know-Who has been trying to ram down our throats in recent months. ;)
