THE MOST IMPORTANT STORY OF OUR TIME: Cheney makes plans to nuke Iran
US Plans Nuclear Attack on Iran

Philip Giraldi, a former intelligence officer in the CIA (and DIA), claims that the United States is developing a plan for the bombing of supposed military targets in Iran, which would include the use of NUCLEAR WEAPONS. The US strike would take place after a 9/11-type terrorist attack on the US. However, the US attack would not depend on Iran actually being involved in the terrorism. In short, the planned attack on Iran would be analogous to the unprovoked attack on Iraq.

Could this criminal insanity be possibly true? Would the United States really launch an unprovoked nuclear attack? Giraldi is a reputable source and has provided information on Iran to Seymour Hersh in the past. Moreover, other articles have come out indicating that the United States has developed contingency plans to use nuclear weapons to attack military installations in Iran and North Korea. (I have included an article by William Arkin from the Washington Post). Giraldi adds that a terrorist attack on the US would serve as the pretext for putting the plan into action.

Now could it be implemented? Certainly, the 9/11 terrorism led to the eventual attack on Iraq (neocons wanted to attack Iraq immediately after September 11), so another terrorist attack could be used as a pretext to attack Iran.

22. Carnegie Endowment for Peace woman on C-Span said Dubya could nuke
Iran's nuclear plants without the approval of Congress! WTF!

And this from someone from the Carnegie Endowment for Peace?!?

Her name is Rose Gottemoeller, a Russian expert who got into looking into Iran because Russia was looking into exporting some of their nuclear expertise to Iran in the early 90's.

Someone asked about Israel. He was cut off really quick, but she very diplomatically said that someday there may be no need for anyone in the Middle East to have nukes--a nuke-free zone--and that Israel had become a nuclear state because they felt a need to deter Iran, whom they feared would develope nukes.

You senseless reactionary.

Shoot first and ask no questions.

Just start shooting at everyone.

This is exactly the kind of moronic reactionary response that ISN'T needed. With all the stories out in the past few days as well as General Byrnes, I would be casting the direction of your gaze towards home LONG before accusing anyone from the outside.

Your attitude is about as clueless as the monsters who are running this country.

PLEASE stop posting nonsense like this before you have no feet to walk on because you have dined on both of them with your rhetoric.

32. I would think so, because some of the wording is in regards
to "international terrorists" and doesn't include a country name:

Whereas Congress has taken steps to pursue vigorously the war on terrorism through the provision of authorities and funding requested by the President to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such persons or organizations;

Whereas the President and Congress are determined to continue to take all appropriate actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001, or harbored such persons or organizations;

Whereas the President has authority under the Constitution to take action in order to deter and prevent acts of international terrorism against the United States, as Congress recognized in the joint resolution on Authorization for Use of Military Force (Public Law 107-40); and

Whereas it is in the national security interests of the United States to restore international peace and security to the Persian Gulf region: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled...

15. absolutely
look, Operation Northwoods, was just such a proposed situation...Kennedy nixed it...but people who were aware of it, are associated with the current admin...I personally, do NOT believe the story we have been told about 9/11...no one will ever convince me..period!! and I was going to hit reply to the post above, that said, IF we were nuked, then to nuke back would be the proper response...YES, IF we knew for sure WHO did it, and would we believe this admin., IF they told us, IRAN did it??? or would we attack IRAN, if some other country was responsible...????..and I also keep saying that we ignore Russia/China..at our own peril...

In any case, this situation is becoming worrysome, in more ways than one...and the PNAC intended to go after Iran, Iraq, N.Korea, Lybia, Syria...way back in 1997 originally...and I don't think they've changed their plans...and right now...WHO and what PARTY is in total CONTROL of this gov't???? Liars, thieves, crooks, criminals who out CIA agents in retaliation...do we trust them to do what's in OUR best interest...or THEIRS???

16. These monsters are going to take us into WW III if they are not stoped NOW
Well over a year ago Al Gore said that these people--the current administration--were a threat to our national security. This same statement was echoed more recently by ambassador Willson. This is not a joke, folks. This is not 'tin foil' territory. This is the reality we are facing right now. This reality is going to bite every man woman and child of us unless something is done. And this is MUCH bigger than a US problem. It is predominantly OUR problem but it is not exclusively so. This is a global problem, a problem that faces the whole of humanity for the consequences of how this turns out will determine the future of humanity from here on out.

We're way beyond politics as usual here. Our nation has been hijacked by a criminal syndicate. WHAT IS NEEDED IS THE TRUTH AND JUSTICE FROM THAT TRUTH.

52.  Who's Behind the Coming War With Iran? (Cheney?)
"In Washington it is hardly a secret that the same people in and around the administration who brought you Iraq are preparing to do the same for Iran. The Pentagon, acting under instructions from Vice President Dick Cheney's office, has tasked the United States Strategic Command (STRATCOM) with drawing up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States".

18. This is serious wig-out fodder-- state of emergency, martial law
In the Age of Terrorism, it's so easy to gut a democracy and get a substantial fraction of the drugged-up population (on power) to go along.

This whole intended attack on Iran would be preceded, of course, by a major 9/11-style attack on US soil that US intelligence agencies "failed" to prevent (or were frustrated in preventing). If such an attack were to e.g. hit the Supreme Court or US Congress-- the heart of our political institutions-- the Bushies could probably declare a State of Emergency, with the population in enough shock to allow them to get away with it. With martial law ensuing-- as someone else suggested-- there would be tremendous pressure for citizens to avoid "getting out of line" and "stay with the program," with quite a few Little Green Footballers and other Rethug fanatics providing "muscle" as the new brownshirts to shut down any arms of the press that disagree with them.

Democracy is acutely vulnerable during times of fear. Woodrow Wilson managed to almost entirely suspend US democracy, and turn the country into a bunch of racist, xenophobic nutwings (hating blacks, Germans, Irish, labor leaders)-- anyone seen as an opponent of the war machine-- during WWI, stoking up fears of socialism and whatnot on the home front. This is even more true today, when the US mainland has indeed been hit. Cheney and the neocons don't see disaster in a terrorist strike against the USA-- they see opportunity, in particular the chance to hit Iran, whose resources they've long coveted.

19. If the US nuked Iran, Russia and India would angrily retaliate
Fallout from nuclear weapon attacks has a nasty habit of drifting with the winds, and in this case a good portion of the fallout from an attack on Iran would drift into India and Russia-- both nuclear powers who would be understandably furious at the United States. They would probably declare that their own countries had been attacked by US weaponry (which, frankly, would be true) and might well retaliate against US soil.

25. Pat Robertson had this plan in 1981
Edited on Sun Aug-14-05 09:47 AM by TorchesAndPitchforks
I'll never forget my amazement the first time I saw Pat Robertson's 700 Club that cold night in my college dorm lounge while flipping through the channels. I was a Freshman majoring in International Relations and so my attention was drawn to a local station showing Robertson standing by a large map of the Middle East and surrounded by "distinguished" scholars and theologians. He scribbled arrows and strange words on the map: "Gog," "Magog," "1,000,000 man army from East."

They were conducting an intelligent conversation about current conditions in the region. Then they started excitedly proposing specific US policies designed to bring about the Biblical Armageddon. Scenarios included a nuclear blast in the heart of Israel.

My jaw dropped to the floor. I laughed it off at the time as the ravings of a small group of powerless madmen. I was shocked in 1984 when this man began winning Republican primaries. I know he is now whispering into the ear of our junta's leader about Iran and I am very, very concerned.

35. Pat's scenario there is taken from prophecy in Ezekiel 38-39
It is a very likely outcome, if the Fraudministration attacks Iran, unfortunately.

In the story, the nation of "Gog" in the land of the distant north forms a coalition army with a number of Muslim nations and invades Israel.

Russia seems the most likely candidate to be "Gog". And if this invasion progresses, Pooty Poot is not going to be happy with his "friend" the Chimp. Meanwhile the majority of Muslim nations are going to be of the opinion that if the "Great Satan" invaded Iraq and Iran, then they'll be next, and you might as well fight the infidels now. And who are the infidels defending?

The Zionists, of course (save your wrath, Likud apologists. I'm speaking hypothetically here)

The Ezekiel 38-39 battle is not the same as Armageddon however. Rather its a way of God getting Israel's attention and getting them to turn from their arrogance and back to Him.

21 And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them.

22 So the house of Israel shall know that I am the LORD their God from that day and forward.

23 And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.

24 According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them.

25 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name;

26 After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made them afraid.

27 When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations;

28 Then shall they know that I am the LORD their God, which caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.

29 Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.

What Pat and the end-timers will tell you is that this battle is the "Kickoff" of the Endoftheworldpalooza, with the Rapture soon following this battle, kicking off the 7 year tribulation featuring the Antichrist.

Scary thing here is that many believe the Rapture is likely to happen on Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which is in September. Which would mean the Ezekiel 38:39 battle happening in August a very likely possibility :scared:

I'm not sure if I heard right and Wolf just glossed over it but Kissinger and Cohen were discussing being stretched too thin and taking on Iran and Kissinger said something like we will need to assess our capabilities and then decide what kind of weapons we would need to or could use or?? Did anyone else catch that? It was said so quickly and Wolf was already onto something else so I wasn't sure what I heard. If he did in fact say that we would need to decide what kind of weapons we would have to use, it probably means he is aware that they are considering "unconventional" weapons.

34. Calm down, Chicken Little.
It only contingency plans. The military has a contingency plan for almost everything you can think of and some you can't. Having a contingency plan DOES NOT mean that they actually intend to implement it. It means that in the even a situation arises, then somewhere there is already a plan in a file somewhere to deal with it.

37. contingency plans ...
wellllllll, not exactly ...

if the reports made by former CIA agent Giraldi are to be believed, i think Cheney's "contingency plans" are very scarey indeed ...

first of all, i think it's flat out insane to even raise the spectre of using nuclear weapons unless there is absolutely no reasonable alternative ... Cheney's plan came nowhere near meeting that request ...

Giraldi reported that Cheney's plan called for the nuking of Iran if the US was hit again by a terrorist attack ... that's bad enough ... but then he added "and this plan would go into effect EVEN IF IRAN HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT" ...

how crazy is that??? and what are the odds of all of this actually being put into practice? everything i've read seems to suggest the likelihood of another attack is very high ...

unfortunately, it looks like Cheney is totally deranged and that this report goes well beyond a Chicken Little scenario ...

Different alarmists have insisted that W is going to nuke

Iran
Syria
Israel
North Korea
China

And some have even insisted that secret nukes have already been used.

So I just don't get worked up over the latest flabbling by some poster.

well, we certainly are as subject to hype here on DU as the general public is ... no question about that ...

but Giraldi, who reported the information contained in the BP article, seems pretty level-headed and very knowledgeable ...

53. Contingency plans are for defense
aren't they? I mean, are you saying the Pentagon has (or ought to have) "contingency" plans for attacking each and every country on the planet?

47. This must be Zarqawi's wet dream
Edited on Mon Aug-15-05 12:11 AM by Jack Rabbit
1, Zarqawi is a sectarian bigot who thinks Shia are Islamic heretics.

2. Zarqawi kills Shia in Iraq.

3. Zarqawi arranges a terrorist attack in the US.

4. The US strikes back at Iran, which has nothing to do with the attacks; many Shia Muslims are killed.

5. Zarqawi is very happy with all the blood on his hands.

Go figure.
