Wolcott piece w/ link.. on why it's OVER in Iraq....

Wolcott cites Immanuel Wallerstein, Senior Research Scholar at Yale, former President of the International Sociological Association, and the author ofthe three-volume magnum opus The Modern World-System.

(snip)

"It's over in Iraq. For the U.S. to win the Iraq war requires three things: defeating the Iraqi resistance; establishing a stable government in Iraq that is friendly to the U.S.; maintaining the support of the American people while the first two are being done. None of these three seem any longer possible. First, the U.S. military itself no longer believes it can defeat the resistance. Secondly, the likelihood that the Iraqi politicians can agree on a constitution is almost nil, and therefore the likelihood of a minimally stable central government is almost nil. Thirdly, the U.S. public is turning against the war because it sees no "light at the end of the tunnel."

1. Bush & M*therf*ckers, Incorporated are holed up in Crawford now
...trying to think of a way to leverage this failure and turn it into political success. Expect them to find some forlorn area of American geography or a demographic to exploit and play to their worst instincts. It will probably look a lot like what you have seen already: the Dems are weak on defense, homophobia, God-talk, whatever. Expect that they are going to have a gambit to play out in Ohio, because the 'pukes are especially weak in my state. Most of their gubernatorial candidates are ruined on ethics charges and the current governor is linked to the biggest financial scandal in any state. Not to mention that they got twenty-some of our Marine Reservists killed for the Bush doctrine this month.

It's gonna be ugly.
