I *finally* thought of a one sentence reply to the RW red herring:
Edited on Wed Aug-17-05 09:24 AM by Richardo
"Isn't the world better off without Saddam Hussein?"

A: "The costs outweigh the benefits."

Period.

Implied in the answer:

Coalition dead, wounded.
Iraqi dead, wounded.
$300 billion cost.
Increased terror attacks.
OBL still free.
Afghanistan unfinished.
$3/gallon gas.
Etc
Etc

"Hmm, was it worth 2,000 dead soldiers and $200 billion? You tell me."

Edit: sorry, that's two sentences. :)

Except Michael Moore and Moveon. I don't want to be seen as a tool of the radical left. :)

5. My answer: No. Categorically, unequivocally No.
Because when all is said and done - he'll be back in a shapeshifted form.

"Isn't the world better off without Saddam Hussein"

6. Better Off For Whom?? The Disabled US Vet Without A Job?...
The people whose homes USA are bombing?

The growing number of USA job-loss workers looking for work?

Growing number of homeless and hungry people in USA?

Bush Lied. People Died. Media Cheered.

7. It's too bad you can't fit that all on a bumper sticker.
Would look great on a full page ad in the Sunday newspapers though. Maybe you should pass it on to MoveOn.org?

8. I just tell them that we're at the point of diminishing returns.
Which was forseeable for us who don't need to be visual learners when it comes to human suffering.

9. "Only a mother burying a child in Iraq can answer that question"
She knows what it was like to live in fear before and what it is like to live in grief after. Which is worse? I personally would rather live in fear with my children than live in fear without them. Is her freedom worth her sacrifice. I bet she would say no.

11. I bring this up often, but I think DUer gulliver said it best:
It's a "five hundred dollar ice cream cone."

Beautiful in its simplicity and clarity.

13. I liked the way you put it, too, Richardo.
Some people don't get metaphors like gulliver's, and your statement gets the point across in five short words.

14. All good responses, but I don't believe that the world IS a safer place
without Saddam. There are more terrorists now than before the war, the rest of the world hates us, and we're engulfed in a Viet Nam-like quagmire. The only people who have benefited are Saddam's political opponents (and the war profiteers).

Bush keeps stating that the world is better off without Saddam with such authority that people just assume that it's true. He says it as if it were a proven, well established, scientific fact, when it's really only his opinion. But it's the way that he says it that makes people believe him.
