Vermont Vigil
Just back from a vigil in Montpelier, Vermont. Over 200 people lined both sides of the street with candles and silence. After the vigil we walked to a small park where members of Vermont Military Families Speak Out addressed the crowd. It was very moving.

September 9-11, Vermont will say "NO" to war at the University of Vermont. Featured:

Michael Parenti (author of The Terrorism Trap and Superpatriotism)

Dennis Brutus (poet, teacher, former South African political prisoner)

Ahmed Shawki (editor International Socialist Review)

Iraq Veterans Against War

Bread and Puppet Theater

David Cline (National President, Veterans for Peace)

Elaine Hagopian (Syrian-American sociologist, professor emetitus Simmons College)

Victor Paredes (brother of conscientious objector Pablo Paredes)

Let`s hope tonight begins America`s long overdue wake up call.

5. Forget to mention....
A very large chunk of the 200-plus crowd (maybe half) was over 50. Lots and lots of men this time. I`m really proud of this effort.

3. I wonder if someone will count up the total number
of vigils and the total attendance. The one I attended tonight was not even listed by Move On. At other locations, people were not signing up, just attending.

It would be interesting to know.
