1. I think he sometimes exhibits tradiational conservative restraint. |
|
For example, when he joined McCain in stymying Frist and his nuclear option.
However, he's definitely a conservative, in terms of his stance on the issues. I think he's just usually a little more measured and sane in his rhetoric.

2. I think he wants to run |
|
2012.
Actually, while he considers himself a conservative repug, he's more moderate than most of his ilk. He tends not to run with the pack, which sometimes gets him in trouble with his voters, but he has commanded a lot of respect.

|
He's a weird bird. He should come to his senses and come on over to our side. You can be gay (in or out of closet) and be a Democrat as long as you're not a hypocrite. Just sayin'. Ya know? I'm in GA, just nearby the SC border. They don't have the best economy in northern SC.

24. I saw him on TV a few weeks ago... |
|
...he was saying that the war is becoming more and more unpopular in South Carolina. Less than 50% support there...don't remember the exact numbers. He was clearly upset and pointed out that if the war is unpopular in SC then they are in trouble. I think he looks at polls just like they all do...and he's looking out for himself.

9. a repub coworker said to look for a McCain/Graham ticket |
|
he laps up whatever the right has to say, and defends bush to the point of being rediculous, but we talked about 08 for a few recently, and he said this would a possible ticket.
I agreed, btw, but I think that effort will meet a rove/cheney machine backed frist effort, with who knows whom as vp (it'll probably have to be kept secret until after the election for national securtiy reasons :eyes: ). And I thnk McCain will be beat again, in a most despicable way, by those who've already done it to him once.
McCain ain't gonna have the draw he did in 2000 anyway.
To KNOW bush is full of **** and still support him, while people are dying as a result? That's bound to turn off some prior supporters.
And Graham doesn't do anything to fix any of that.

Rogan got his ass kicked here in Glendale just for doing that. Barr got handed his walking papers even if he was "gooder". McCollum was defeated in Florida, no less. Hyde's in a fascist district, but took hits that killed his hopes for advancement.
America HATED these assholes for railroading Clinton; there was retaliation simply for this.
Rep. Henry Hyde (Illinois) tainted by adultery, stalled
Rep. James Sensenbrenner (Wisconsin) a fine Nazi; goes no farther
Rep. Bill McCollum (Florida) defeated, largely because of this
Rep. George Gekas (Pennsylvania) defeated, largely because of this Rep. Charles Canady (Florida) not in Congress now; please enlighten
Rep. Steve Buyer (Indiana) safe in a feudal seat
Rep. Edward Bryant (Tennessee)didn't stand for re-election; failed to win Senate seat. Why?
Rep. Steve Chabot (Ohio) well ensconced in naziland
Rep. Bob Barr (Georgia) ratfucked by his own people; defeated
Rep. Asa Hutchinson (Arkansas) left Congress to administer the DEA; still a viable power, planning to run for Jesus' Arkansas Governor Rep. Chris Cannon (Utah) seems to be safe
Rep. James Rogan (California) defeated for trying to lynch Clinton
Rep. Lindsey Graham (South Carolina)ascended to Senate, where he's doing a fine Dave Foley impression
Yeah, we got our asses kicked in the House in '94, but we gained seats in '96, '98 (because of the lynching) and in '00. We lost 7 (I think) seats in '02 due to war fearmongering and voter fraud, and we lost some in '04 because of the Texas thievery, but less than the gain in Texas because of it.
People aren't as stupid as others would like to think.

12. We may need a person of conscience |
|
I've come to respect any Congress-critter who has the guts to stand up to the lunatics in the White House. I don't care what party he or she is a member of. I don't care about their voting record. If a Congress-critter, especially a Republican, opposes * that's good.
Kudos to Sen. Graham.

He saw what his Republican president was responsible for after he viewed the videos from Abu Ghraib. He was genuinely horrified and said so at the time, directly to Dick Cheney, who was trying to shut down the hearings.
I remember his face at the time, he asked Cheney to 'let us do our job, Mr VP, we are talking about rape and murder here'. His face was shocked. Maybe he does have a conscience and saw this administration for what it was after that.

27. "we are talking about rape and murder here" |
|
I was struck by that quote at the time, and surprised (well, not really) that there was absolutely NO follow-up, in the press or anywhere else.
Back when Graham was a US Rep, I remember how worked-up he got over Bill Clinton's many sins. He made a LOT of noise on the subject, and at one point he almost burst into tears at the thought that such evil could be tolerated here in America.
Then, as a Senator, he made his one little squeek about Abu Ghraib, and has been silent ever since.
I guess we've reached the point in our country where we have to give a politician credit when he comes out against rape and murder.
It's enough to make you thoughtful...

26. Could Graham be for real? |
|
This South Carolinian has never been a friend or supporter of Lindsey Graham. His actions during the Clinton/Monica fiasco mad me SICK.
As someone who has been active politics since the mid-60's, I have seen politicians change for the better. Not many, but I keep me eyes open.
In today's political climate, I notice ANY politician who is willing to stand up for the truth - no matter what it is. You know - one who wants to be a statesman instead of a politician. Graham could be one of these politicans. Of course, I could be wrong, too.
As a South Carolinian, Lindsey Graham has surprised me by his reasonable stand on some issues. Since elected, Graham has taken a stand with those in Congress who want to fight the "BIG Brother" and ethically challenged politics of the facists in charge.

I guess that rumor follows any never-married man of a certain age. However, if it is true, it could help to explain why he seems to have a streak of liberal good sense about him at times.

He led the McCain campaign in South Carolina in 2000 -- when Rove did the Big Smear. No doubt that Graham is not a Rove fan.
