Newsweek's Conventional Wisdom gives Dubya rare down arrow
Edited on Sun Aug-21-05 10:12 AM by flpoljunkie
Bush His "9/11 link" pro-war offensive is getting offensive. What he's selling, America ain't buying.

_____________

Offensive, indeed. New York Times editorial today, "Walking the Wrong Way" says as much about the planned Pentagon 9/11 event Rummy is planning to continue this lie.

Walking the Wrong Way

The Bush administration has announced plans for a Freedom Walk on Sept. 11, which will start at the Pentagon and end at the National Mall, and include a country music concert. The event is an ill-considered attempt to link the Iraq war to the terrorist attacks of 2001, and misguided in almost every conceivable way. It also badly misreads the public's mood. The American people are becoming increasingly skeptical about the war. They want answers to hard questions, not pageantry.

It is perfectly appropriate for the Defense Department to organize a memorial for Americans who died on Sept. 11, since many were Pentagon employees. It is also fine to pay tribute to the sacrifices being made by the troops in Iraq. What is disturbing is the Bush administration's insistence on combining the two in a politically loaded day of marching and entertainment.

Having failed to find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, the administration has been eager to repackage the war as a response to Sept. 11. The Freedom Walk appears to be devised to impress this false connection on the popular imagination.

The walk will end with a concert by the country musician Clint Black. Mr. Black is a gifted entertainer, but his song about the Iraq war, "I Raq and Roll" - which contains such lyrics as "our troops take out the garbage, for the good old U.S.A." - sends a jingoistic message that is particularly out of place at a memorial service.

2. Yeah, they could have described him as a famous country music singer and
friend of the GOP. Too bad they did not.

8. Picky picky picky. They trashed the whole stupid idea of the
memorial, the linkage and using a jigostic tune in the memorial. Just because they describe Black as 'a gifted entertainer' isn't a reason to dis the piece, IMHO.

i mean, are we anti-C. Black or pro-peace?

9. Hey don't dis county fairs, i saw Bonnie Raitt at a county fair a
number of years ago, and she was awesome. It was before she hit it big in the mainstream.

Personally, I'm very happy they chose Mr. Black, since I won't be there any way.

7. Stay tuned....
there may be a terrible "terrorist attack", a "tragedy" during the event staged to strike fear anew in the hearts and minds(?) of Bushco's worshippers.

He needs a couple more years to eradicate all but the most loyal in Iraq. He can't have this pesky anti-war crap going on!

The registration is to compare the missing to the manifest...

12. Hmm, Bush acting like Marie Antoinette, polls are in the toilet
And Newsweek's "conventional wisdom" watch finally decided that he needed a down arrow. That's just so cute. I suppose it sucks if you or a family member is one of the tens of thousands of persons who have died because of Bush's false linkage and the media complicity (including Newsweek's own supine coverage), but there it is, a down arrow in the conventional wisdom at last.

14. As I remember it, there weren't "many" pentagon people killed.
The plane ran into the wing being remodeled. Only a few died.

If they want to pay tribute to the troops - how about getting armour for the Humvees. Armour. How much is this costing?
