The sad part about Bush's speech is that there actually parents who |
|
believe their children were killed for a noble cause and a just war. That's what blows my ever-lovin mind. Some people actually believe in this shit!

1. Keep in mind that some of them MUST believe it. |

Otherwise, they'd go insane.
I mean this in all seriousness. Acknowledging that your kid died so that some rich bastards could become much richer would be more than many people could handle. It's much easier to believe that your kid died "spreading freedom."
Edit: fixed typo

But I don't think it's particularly impertinent to ask just what that "noble cause" is supposed to be. Sure, meaningless platitudes can be comforting -- ask any funeral director -- but at some point, you figure that sentient people are allowed to ask what the substance behind the aphorism is.

7. To ask a question, one must first realize that the question exists. |
|
I think that people blindly believe whatever Bush or the media or Rush or their right-wing friends tell them. I think that some of them are so immersed in the "Bush rules" world that they don't even know that they SHOULD be questioning him in the first place.

10. Sadly so. Imagine the pain of burying your CHILD. Regardless of the |
|
grieving parents' opinions of the war, I have nothing but compassion for them.If nothing else, these men and women dies for the America they believed in.
Their lives were not spent in vain.

5. Bush is destroying the military, especially Nat'l Guard with this war..... |

As M.M. said in F9/11, "will they ever trust us again"?

8. Remember, most of these "volunteers" volunteered during peacetime. |
|
That's a huge difference. How many of them do you think would volunteer today?

9. Welcome to DU! It is a good point. |

And the poster who said some of these parents MUST believe their son or daughter died for a "noble cause" - is spot-on true. Spot-on. It IS called denial. To have to face that your precious baby was killed so some chickenhawk and his spoiled, pampered country-club pals could get richer - is probably beyond a weeping mother or sucker-punched father could deal with. To sacrifice their child - for NOTHING. Could any of us imagine anything more sickening? I think I'd want to blow my brains out if that happened to me. It's something I'd have serious trouble facing, and I'd probably be out there with Cindy Sheehan. Or I'd be the next Cindy Sheehan.
There's another aspect to it - shame: shame that you've been had. That you were used. That you were fooled. That you bought the lies. That you went in so open and trusting and full of faith and genuine honesty and sacrifice, and you were USED, ABUSED, and tossed out with the trash. That may even be harder to face - that you were suckered by the criminals in the White House. NO ONE wants to admit that. NO ONE. NO ONE wants to admit he or she has been had. And played. Played for a complete fool. Which is what has happened to these poor people. It would be difficult for me to admit, too. One does have one's pride, after all.
Isn't it staggering to see the magnitude of hurt, sin, and disgrace george w. bush has caused? Its scope is not just nationwide, but worldwide by now. It's actually rather impressive, in a sick, disgusting way. EVERYTHING, and EVERYONE he touches, turns to shit.

11. Framing issue here. Those children died for the America they believed in, |
|
the same America I believed in and still know exists. They did not die in vain, but sadly, they died as a result of the most hideous dishonesty one can imagine.
