David Horowitz Thinks That I Am Janeane Garofalo (Yes, He Is a Moran)!

Hey Everyone,

It came to my attention today that I've been mistaken for a celebrity. It's a mildly funny story and I thought some of you would get a kick out of it.

I wrote an editorial essay about Cindy Sheehan last friday on my blog The Blue Republic. Apparently someone who runs a fan site devoted to Janeane Garofalo decided to take the essay and reprint it in its entirety on their site, which is no big deal, really - we're surprised someone liked it enough to want to use it.

Anyhoo, conservative pundit David Horowitz of "Newsmax" fame saw the essay and assumed that it was written by Janeane Garofalo. Apparently my writing bothered him so much that he felt compelled to blast it on his site, which apparently has a pretty good following of crazies. He devoted an entire thread to it, titled "Janeane Garofalo Weighs In". He quotes the essay quite a bit, and then proceeds to blast Janeane and her "logic". The beauty of it is that he completely fails to understand that Janeane Garofalo had nothing to do with writing the essay - I doubt she knows it even exists.

For a while, I just sat back and thought that the whole thing was pretty funny - and typically illustrative of the fact-checking capabilities of guys like Horowitz. But things progressed even further. The owner of the fan site wrote a response to Horowitz letting him know that Janeane had no affiliation with his site, and that the article was written by someone else.

Horowitz then wrote a scathing retort on his site, saying the following:

"This morning in the middle of a dozen tasks I posted a comment on Janeane Garofalo’s empty-headed ramblings on Cindy Sheehan. In my haste I mistook a Garofalo fan site, for Garofalo’s site (to which I’ve never been). No difference really since all the words I referred, every last one of them belongs to Garofalo. . . .

The one positive aspect of this otherwise depressing non-event is that my entire post is now up on the site, Janeane Garofalo For The Rest Of Us. The downside is that people who frequent this site probably can’t read."

Ummm, speaking of illiteracy, perhaps David Horowitz should learn a bit of beginner's reading comprehension, as he still believes what I wrote was penned by Janeane, even after being told otherwise. Additionally, none of the fans on his site have noticed or commented on his mistake. Way to do your research, people!

I hope that the real Janeane doesn't get any flack from this. It would be one thing if some random conservative blogger made this mistake, but Horowitz is a semi-known figure, which makes it a bit more fun to see him tie his own noose. Now that I'm a fake Janeane - I guess I'll have to go get myself a fake radio show and show business career. Then maybe Horowitz can blast that, too!
