BBC: Today's speech "a chance for Bush to seize back the centre stage."

Bush makes well-worn case on Iraq
By Matthew Davis
BBC News, Washington

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4175034.stm

US President George W Bush has again defended US policy in Iraq, as he interrupted his holiday to address war veterans in Utah.

While the president has been secluded at his ranch in Texas, anti-war protesters camped by the roadside have taken the limelight.

This speech was Mr Bush's first public appearance in more than a week and, although long-planned, was a chance for the president to seize back the centre stage.

In front of an appreciative audience, Mr Bush once again made his case for staying the course in Iraq. Using now familiar language, he said the US would "finish the task" that its troops had given their lives for, and withdraw from Iraq only when Iraqi forces could stand by themselves. A second speech is planned in Idaho on Wednesday and the administration is hoping the high-profile appearances will help stem growing public concern about the conduct of the war.

2. I can't see this having any effect on the numbers...
He only allows his base to attend these things anyways. You don't need to convince the lemmings.

3. Hold a press conference, then.
We'd love to hear your unfiltered, unrehearsed opinions of why 58% of the people don't like you.

4. And as usual he chose center stage to prove how delusional he is.
Bush Compares War on Terror to World Wars

<snip>
As he did in last year's election campaign and more recently as war opposition has risen, Bush reminded his listeners of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 — reciting the date five times in a 30-minute speech.

<snip>

Besides his references to Sept. 11 and the war on terror, Bush also spoke of earlier global fights.

"In a single lifetime, many of you have seen liberty spread from Germany and Japan to Eastern Europe to Latin America to Southeast Asia and Africa and beyond," Bush told the largely gray-haired crowd.

"The generation of men and women who defend our freedom today is taking its rightful place among the heroes of our nation's history."

Missing linkoid feces-flinging whack-job.

Iraq isn't about 9/11, and the first two World Wars weren't pre-emptive "let's smear some liberty on the walls like shit in a madhouse and grab some oil wells while we're here" campaigns based on a big-assed bag of lies.

F'ing buttwad. I can't even stand to think about him anymore...much less listen to him or look at him.
Why should I bother my beautiful mind?

5. Funnily, BBC also has this:
"Bush makes well-worn case on Iraq"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/4175034.stm

I listened to *'s speech today because that's what I do. Every sentence was either maniacal smirk hipocrisy or, yes, a well-worn lie. How anybody could applaud that - how any war veterans could applaud that - is beyond my comprehension.

Did anyone notice how Bush's jaw was working out? Is he on medication, was it a bad tooth, or was he actually gnashing his teeth?
