Republicans propping up Dean
I think we may see a lot of Republicans voting tomorrow for Dean because they think he would be the easiest to beat in Novemeber.

4. In Washington State
we're not having a primary this year and the repugs cried the loudest to have one, that's not to say they were going to vote Dean but they had something in mind.

25. So what?
I couldn't care less...the result will be the same. Howard would win. I read that piece posted from the Washington times yesterday, regarding the Republican heading up the Mississippi meet-up...in essence he's right...motivations might be different but the only way Dean can win the White House is to win the nomination.
Frankly if Dean wins the nomination I wouldn't be surprised to see some on the other side supporting him in the general.

5. I know they're making calls....
I guarantee there are thousands of Republicans making phone calls on his behalf. Why do you think some Iowa voters reported they had been contacted by the Dean campaign over 20 times?

19. The Dean campaign had
thousands of volunteers in Iowa, many of whom were making phone calls. THAT'S why some people were called as many as twenty times.

10. I just heard repub radio gloating about this.... no joke..
I don't know how much weight to put onto it, but I was driving home a couple hours ago. Listening to the radio and flipped to the Clearchannel monolith piece of shit talk-radio station.

Some Hugh Hewitt show or some name like that. The host and a caller or two were discussing all the 'great republican people' that they had in N.H. that were campaigning hard as they could for Dean. They didn't necessarily say voting for Dean.

The one "analyst" caller said..(paraphrased) "I sure hope Dean wins, the best thing for this country would be to have Bush re-elected."(I almost barfed on that one :P)

Anyway, I am not a Dean fan, but that is exactly what I heard them gleefully discussing on the way home from work.

Personally I am not sure how much I believe it, but it was right-wing radio.

14. it's like the Naderian argument...
if the Republicans support Ralph, should you think less of him?

Because the Pukes say they like Dean, does that mean he's not actually the person you should vote for?

15. Not agreeing with their argument, just stating what I just heard..
in relation to the topic of the thread.

I only heard this a couple hours ago on my way home from work. And here is a thread about it, so I posted my experience.

I don't have any problem with Dean's electability, I don't support Dean because of his policies and misrepresentations.

13. Actually, a faction of Republicans are interested in switching to Dean
I would imagine that is what part of the Dean interest is about.

Ive talked to two Republicans who watched Dean on CSpan and said they liked him, and understood why so many are finding him so popular...Yay!! They said they agreed with him on almost everything he said. They EVEN said that they wouldnt have a problem voting for him. It was at a bar so consider the source, HOWEVER, they are pretty open minded guys, but have always been Republican.

They did say they are amazed by the amount of arrogance and self-righteousnes coming from the Bush Administration and they think its gone way overboard. (Hello?)

So Americans are getting it. These are pretty evolved Republicans too, but I often dont give them the credit where credit is due.

So talk to other Republicans, I think you may be surprised.

16. No repubs crossing over in NH
The state doesn't permit crossover voting. They would have had to change registration at least 30 days prior to the primary. If there had been any significant amount of switching, we would have heard about it.

If repubs were calling people 20 times a day for Dean in Iowa, it sounds more like sabotage than help. That's annoying.

I have heard several repub/neocon pundits talking about how they would love to run against Dean. I am old enough to remember them saying the same thing about Clinton and Carter some time ago. I also know that nine 1/2 months is an awfully long time. Ask any woman you see who's eight months pregnant. Things do change.

I'm uncommitted, all four contenders are still on my short list (full disclosure).

23. actually they can
they have an open type voting system and NH has the largest Libertarian and Independent populations of any other state. I was watching old news clips last night from the 2000 primary. One woman said as she entered the polling booth she was going to vote for Bill Bradley, but changed her vote at the last minute for John McCain .. !!

24. Independents Can Vote

Not the switching, it is the independents. Alot of NH voters are independents. You can vote in either primary, and then switch back to independent after the primary - that is what people do.

17. in order to do so
they would have had to change from Reoublican to Democrat or Independant well before the election.

Iowa is differnt than New Hampshire, First is is a primary, and second the rules on who is eligable to vote are different.

If you are going to make wild accusations, please, at least make them from a position of knowledge.

These type of posts are what keep me undecided -- I keep feeling the need to defend candidates against this sort of silliness. I am now to the point, after defending each one so damn many times, that I support them all about equally. In short, you aren't making points.
