Would Jesus go to join Bush and accept Bush's distortions, callousness and outright lies? Would Jesus understand the reasons for attacking Iraq?
Or, would Jesus go to Cindy Sheehan, recognize her suffering and determination to bring a halt to the killing and suffering of others?

If they believe in Jesus ask them how could they support the Bush position. Ask them what it says in the Bible about bearing false witness?
Tell your friends the facts about the lies and distortions Bush has made regarding Iraq, "weapons of mass deception", and the attacks on the World Trade Center.
The terrorists Saddam Hussein supported were part of Hamas, not Al Quaida. Hamas did not attack America, they were fighting Israel. Ask your friends if they know the difference between Hamas and Al Quaida? Ask them if they know who the leaders of the two groups are? Ask them if they know what the aims of the leaders are?
The U.N. weapons inspectors said time and again that they had no evidence Saddam had any WMDs. Ask your friends if they can tell you what was the real reason we invaded Iraq?
Put them on the defensive and make them think. Be prepared to explain the truth to them. They won't accept what you tell them if it differs from what they learned from Fox News or from Rush Limbaugh. Come to your debate with knowledge and challenge every mis-statement they make.
Make it clear to them that you want to discuss facts, not just get into an exchange of talking points. Eventually they will get around to blaming the last real president we have had, Bill Clinton.
You have to let them speak their beliefs, and you have to have patience.

12. Already been this route

Fundamentalist Christians are taught to enter into a debate for the sole purpose to prove they're right and the non-Christian is wrong. As a former fundie myself, I know a lot of the holes in their philosophies. Do you think I can point out the holes to them and get my point across? No way! They babble about the verses they remember learning about in church and try to incorporate that into the debate, even if it doesn't fit. Then they become so flustered, they go back to their church leaders and have the church leaders explain why I'm wrong and they're right. The leader then does the same thing, citing verses that don't apply, but says they do anyway. The fundie feels better that the all-knowing church leader confirmed they were right. They're not open to anything outside their teachings. When logic starts to dominate the debate, then they fall back 100% on their faith, as they were taught. Why do you think Bush wants Christianity to be the worldwide religion?

For non religious conversations, I am always running into people who listen to Fox News, but confess they don't really care about politics. So they have strong feelings on the limited version they want to hear, but they refuse to listen to "facts" because they claim they're just not interested. I guess I can't come up with the special effects Fox can to make it worth a listen. They shut me up immediately and don't even want to talk about it.

I continue to try to get people's attention, and my neighbor has found some good ways to get through, but I usually find myself waiting until they're starting to see something isn't right and want to know why.

We can't show the ones who refuse. Sometimes they start to see that they have been bullshitted. It is like getting them to break their faith in a cult. How can you de-program a true believer?
What we can do is talk to the people who will listen. They should be pretty easy to convince that what the Republicans are doing to America is not for our good.
Often when talking with a Republican-supporting co-worker I realize I will never change their mind, but I can influence others who stand around and listen. I choose my words to show the inconsistencies of the Republican actions. I make it clear that the Republicans are really just a bunch of hypocrites.
We won't win them all, we just need 50% + 1. That's assuming the elections aren't rigged.
