Something has been bothering me about *'s response today..
Edited on Tue Aug-23-05 04:51 PM by rateyes
to a question about meeting with Cindy, and I have finally figured out what it is: He said something to the effect of, "I sent two of my guys out to talk to her, she expressed her opinion, and mine is different---don't think we should bring troops home now....blah..."

Problem is: Cindy isn't down there, IMHO, to express her opinion about the war---she's down there to get some questions answered, and hold * accountable for the answers to those questions. He knows her opinion, she knows his opinion on the troops---she wants to know "what was the noble cause?" "Why, actually, did we go?" "What was imminent enough about the threat to send our troops to die over?"

He still doesn't get it! We know his opinions---we just want the TRUTH to be told.

13. It's short and sweet, and would make a good bumper sticker.
We don't even have to engage in the side issues the right keeps trying to raise regarding Cindy. We just have to keep asking: What Was The Noble Cause?

2. No, he gets it.
He just doesn't want the truth to get out. If he answers those questions truthfully, his whole suit of armour will fall off.

5. yes, the pukkkes have nailed that down as the talking point
Bush: " Cindy's opinion is _get out now and I disagree."

Was that Cindy's opinion? NOT EXACTLY!!! Is that what she was there for? NO! Was she followed by supporters who do believe "get out now" is the correct policy? YES! Is Bush quoting them not Cindy? APPARENTLY!!!

but they don't care, they are rewriting Cindy's words so that she is easier to bash.

AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!

it drives me nuts.

8. Bottom line: he's afraid of her.
He knows she's right. He knows she's speaking for millions. He can never admit he's wrong, ergo he can't meet with her. His inflated ego only acknowledges sycophants.

10. I tell you...
after watching his performance in Utah, and his nervous reaction at the end of that speech, as others have pointed out here, I think the man is in for a nervous breakdown--which, if happens, give us Cheney!

16. Found that link:
Excerpt:

"On Sheehan, the grieving mother who has camped near his ranch since Aug. 6, the president said he strongly supports her right to protest. 'She expressed her opinion. I disagree with it,' Bush said. 'I think immediate withdrawal from Iraq would be a mistake,' he said. 'I think those who advocate immediate withdrawal from not only Iraq but the Middle East are advocating a policy that would weaken the United States.'"

This is the biggest smokescreen from him yet. I didn't ask him to withdraw the troops, I asked him what Noble Cause did Casey die for. I am still waiting for one of the press corps to ask him that. I am still waiting for that answer. First, we were told WMD's: false. Then we were told Saddam=Osama: false. Then we were told Saddam was a bad man to his own people and we had to get rid of him: he's gone. Then we were told the Iraqi people had to have elections: they did. Now we are spreading "freedom and democracy" but we are building 14 permanent bases, some the size of Sacramento, Ca. To me that indicates that we are spreading the cancer of imperialism and usurping THEIR natural resources.

Thanks.

11. Typical puke ploy: reframe the issue such that the response you...
...give--or, in this case, have already given--is the correct one.

Remember they're an empire, now. They create their own reality.

15. Exactly
The Corporate Media and the Right Wing are so content with relagating Cindy to the Anti-War movement, because they have to shield the real meaning behind Cindy's movement.....

WHY? You flip flop, change the goal posts.... You haven't given us a legitimate reason as to why we are there that has not since been debunked (not that we don't know what the real ones are... we want you to either show you are a chicken or we want you to look bad)

17. Just a truthful answer to an honest question...
is all she is asking: "What was the noble cause for which my son died?" WMD? Democratic instead of Islamic state? Regime change? Personal Revenge? WHAT WAS THE NOBLE CAUSE?

24. That's always been his strategy.
You ask him one thing, he answers something else. He wouldn't be worth a damn on Jeopardy, or come to think of it, a president either.

25. "Finish the job..." "Complete the mission..." "blah, blah, blah"
That's their only answer these days, and it is another non-answer typical of the spin doctors in Mr. Rove's travelling medicine-show. I fully agree that the troops need to come home NOW, but we're just shouting over one another like two kids on the playground that don't play well together. I'm waiting for someone, the next time we hear "gotta complete the mission," to ask the question that is begged:

"AND JUST WHAT IS THE MISSION?"

And then ask a quick follow up:

"AND JUST HOW DO WE DEFINE SUCCESS IN THAT MISSION?"

These are the questions we need to ask; these are the issues we need to discuss. We can yell "bring 'em home now" till we're blue in the face, but they're not about to change their mind anytime soon. If, however, we push these questions in the public arena, they will either give an answer that we can easily refute (yeah, right!), or they will avoid a question that anyone in their right mind will agree should be answered.
