WH says "their will be tension in the Iraqi Courts between women's rights
and Islam since the Constitution says both (1)that women have rights, and that (2) all laws must pass the test of being not contradicted by Islam.

So Women's rights depend on who are the appointees to the Court?

That does sound like a GOP idea.

1. Yes Iraqi women have rights
Rights as guaranteed by Sharia law, in other words less rights then they had under a dictator.

2. The state guarantees as long as it doesn't violate public order and morals
under Islam.

That sure sounds like no rights.

The wording released today has that as long as clause in it - and I would not make a very large bet on women having the rights they had under Saddam.

5. pretty ironic
to have more rights under a dictator that under a supposedly free country. Oh wait, women's rights don't matter in a democracy, according the American Enterprise Institute.

3. Women are in trouble.
Who knows what will become of them. All we can say for certain is that they will not have equality, and they will be worse off.

I am sick to my very girlie soul on this.

Got to get The Handmaids Tale out and read it again so I can finish scaring the holy shit outta myself. As woman in this world today, I feel my guard and antenna can NEVER be let down now...never.
