Gary Hart on CNN ... NOW ... finally ... (5:27 pm edt)
for those of you who didn't see the earlier thread in GDP on Hart's remarkable article in the WP, it's worth a read ...

Hart had some pretty strong medicine to offer to the Democratic Party ...

and here's a direct link to Hart's article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/08/23/AR2005082301178.html

1. comments from "the Hart" ... as fast as i could type them ...
Edited on Wed Aug-24-05 04:34 PM by welshTerrier2
"when times require leadership, moral leadership, to remain silent is to betray the trust of people in the Democratic Party and the country"

"what they want from the Democratic Party is a plan to turn over Iraq to the Iraqis"

"it has become a Vietnam in the desert"

"we're losing more and more Americans; American casualties including dead and wounded are now around 25,000"

"the opposition party should put forward a plan" ... "not calling for immediate withdrawal"

responding to Clinton quote which said "i support the strategy" ... Hart said "i don't know what our strategy is; we are not supporting the troops"

"individual leaders need to put forward some ideas"

"we are not prepared for the 21st century war"

"those Dems that have done their homework and prepared for the military conflicts of the future will be very well positioned"

Gives me a flavor of what he's saying whilst I am cubicle-bound.

4. Clinton support of Bush strategy is weak, DLC go along to get along crap.
Bush's strategy is "stay the course", don't "cut and run"--which is to say, it is not a strategy at all--something which Gary Hart deftly pointed out to Blitzer.

5. Wonder if Lieberman responded to Hart's comments?
Would have loved to be a fly on the wall in that conference room listening to Hart chew out the Dem leadership.
