Noonan - Republicans are scared of Wes Clark
Peggy Noonan slammed Wes Clark in the WSJ. She thinks he will beat W and has begun to beg the Democrats not to nominate him. http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/pnoonan/?id=110004608

We are going to clobber the chimp.

1. This is undoubtedly
the most pathetic piece of trash I have ever seen.

How obvious can the r-wingers get?

Hopefully, the only people who will read Nooner's (er, ah Noonan's) column are those who already agree with her. I don't know of many, if any, democrats who take her seriously.

3. What else would you expect
from another Repuke shill. Notice the title of her book "When Character was King: A Story of Ronald Reagan". Enough said.

4. More lies from Peggy Noonan.
"He is passionately for the war until he announces for the Democratic nomination facing an antiwar base, at which point he becomes passionately antiwar."

Clark was never passionately for the war. It's clear from his testimony that he did not agree with Bush's time frame, nor did he think the intelligence was good enough.

Will we see a retraction from Ms. Noonan? Of course not.

5. Why do you think that is?
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 10:14 AM by bowens43
If true (and I certainly see no indication that it is) I think it's because republicans see that Clark seems to be most like them or most like someone they would vote for so naturally they consider him to be most electable. Of course this is a logic error on their part.

7. That article was overtly desperate
Noonan is terrified of Clark. If not, why the slam on primary day?

8. Another gem..
this from Camille Paglia:

"What a phony! . . . Clark reminds me of Keir Dullea in '2001: A Space Odyssey'--a blank, vacant expression, detached and affectless." But, said the interviewer, his supporters say he is handsome and great on TV. Ms. Paglia: "Doesn't anyone know how to 'read' TV? The guy's an android . . . a slick, boudoir, salon military type who rubbed plenty of colleagues the wrong way. Clark is not a natural man's man. And he's no Eisenhower. . . . This is just another hysterical boomlet, as when the nerdy Northeast media went gaga for John McCain--'Finally, a soldier we like!'"

The fact that Camille Paglia despises him only elevates him in my eyes.

10. My response to Noonan
I sent this, though I doubt it will get posted on the WJS site:
It's quite clear that "Wes Clark is unstable" will be the Republican mantra if he threatens to win the nomination, precisely as "John McCain is unstable" was after New Hampshire four years ago, for the very same reasons and with just as little justification. Sen. McCain's productive Senate career and self-sacrificing loyalty to his party have shown how much truth there was to the smear; four years from now, whether he is in the White House, another Democratic president's Cabinet, or private life, Wes Clark will be putting the lie to Peggy Noonan's smear. Sorry, Ms. Noonan: we Democrats aren't fooled.

> Sorry, Ms. Noonan: we Democrats aren't fooled.

Well. At least one of us is. (sigh)

Not sure how we can combat this BS. Any ideas? Do we need to pick a single network/media outlet and bombard just it with emails and phone calls? Put all of our effort into trying to establish a beachhead in at least one outlet?

15. Yes that would be a start
They need to see that they have a significant viewership that is happy/unhappy. I think that the RW has been very effective with this type of effort.

14. Stay away from this wingnut drivel.
This gossip columnist is essentially saying that people shouldn't vote for Dean or Clark because they are crazy.

What she means is, people should not vote for Dean or Clark because they are not D.C. insiders.

It's more of the same crap, with the wingnuts running the media show.
