Could you personally ever show any sympathy for George W Bush?
He makes it very difficult. Because he is such a spiteful and petty person himself, nothing he has done warrants any sympathy. If the shoe were on the other foot, you would get no sympathy from him. He doesn't believe in that kind of liberal bullshit. Every man for himself. Remember how he laughed at that lady on death row? No sympathy from George Dubya... He deserves none in return.

3. Never, Never, Never!!! There is no way I would ever have
sympathy for Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rove, Wolfowitz, Libby, Powell, and the rest of the crooks in this organization.

As a matter of fact, I cannot wait until these people get the karma that is headed their way. There will be no tears from me, I assure you.

6. He is a deplorable 'human being'.
I could rant on for quite some time about his failings, but we are all aware of them here.

If I had the appropriate body parts I WOULD piss on him if he were on fire.....

But that's the furthest I could go in empathy.

13. You know, at the end of Star Wars Episode III?
Anikin jumps at Obiwan, who hacks off his legs and leaves him at the edge of the lava flow, crippled. Anikin struggles ahead an inch or two, then the heat from the lava ignites him.

If George W. Bush was in a similar situation, crippled and on fire, I'd like to think I'm a compassionate enough person that I wouldn't turn my back on him, as Obiwan did to Anikin. I would hope that I'd have what it takes . . .

to piss on him if he was on fire.

I feel sorry for him for being too stupid to realize just how evil many in his administration are, but then I remember that he just doesn't care, and is in many ways knowingly complicit. 20. Never, never, ever
I'd rather eat my own guts. I despise him for what he's done to our country and out troops. He makes me ill. I can't explain it but, from the first time I heard him speak I got knots in my stomach and some very very bad feelings about him.

I wasn't into politics then and when I heard bits and pieces about bush being a candidate I thought, 'Bush can run again!? He was just President 8 years ago. That's how little I knew about the bushwackers. Find out it's his son and the dim one, yet!

That's when I started to pay real close attention to the campaign of 2000 and haven't stopped since. The USSC broke my heart and caused me to lose complete faith in the Court and our government in general.

Thanks to Skinner, Elad, and Earl G, I was looking for a place like DU to find out information because I didn't quite believe the 4th Estate. doh!

During the campaign the only source I found that afforded some dialogue was the Washington Post Messageboard. Loaded with pukes and Clinton haters and a few very knowledgeable Dems. Ok, I'm rambling.

34. "Fool me once... Shame on... shame on me?"
"You fool me--can't get fooled again!"

I say let the silver-spooned spoiled bastard rot in federal prision for the rest of his pathetic life. When Daddy and his buddies can't help him out of trouble any longer, then and only then MIGHT he have a chance to learn his lessons and come to genuinely realize how much suffering and pain he has caused so many people. And that's only if he doesn't have a total nervous breakdown.

Even then, I don't know that I could ever feel sorry for him.

I have no such doubts, however, about Bush Sr., or Cheney and Rumsfeld. They're on par with Adolph Hitler as far as I'm concerned. Sick, sick men who would slit their own mothers' throats for a dime. They are evil at its absolute worst.

Edited on Fri Aug-26-05 02:52 AM by Nothing Without Hope
way over his head and in some dim way maybe he knows it. But many, many people have far more difficult lives, including the ones whose lives were made so by him. And there are many others who have no life at all because of him.

I will find it easier to feel some distant compassion for him AFTER he is no longer actively working to destroy everything decent and good in the world. I don't want to feel hate even for him because it hurts ME, but it's difficult not to.

I don't wish some terrible, painful thing to happen to him. (Though the best-guess diagnosis of his deterioration is presenile dementia, which is progressive.) I just want him out of power and away from where he can do any more harm. It pains me to even think of him, with all the harm he is causing and the vicious way he enjoys it. He's like a focus of spewing malice and violence, though truly there is a criminal cabal of people who are the ones actually running things while Bush has his physically comfortable life.

He needs to be kept isolated from anyone he could harm. A jail cell would be a good place.

In situations like this, the concept of karmic debt and rebirth to learn lessons en route to enlightenment would be a comforting belief. If I believed this, and if I could bear thinking of the Bushes, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bolton, Wolfowitz and the others any more than absolutely necessary, it might be entertaining to imagine what future lives they might have to further their educations in ethics and compassion.

50. "Spiteful" is a good word to choose.
He seems like a thoroughly unpleasant little runt to me. The arrogance and the constant smirk are intolerable. I really hate the way he talks to his audiences as if they are 10, while often sounding like a nervous, foolish 16-year-old himself.

No, no sympathy, although I do feel these things:

"abhorrence, abomination, anathema, animosity, animus, antagonism, antipathy, aversion, bete noire, black beast, bother, bugbear, destination, detestation, disgust, dislike, dog-eye, enmity, execration, frost, grievance, gripe, hatred, horror, hostility, ill will, irritant, loathing, malevolence, malignity, mislike, nasty look, nuisance, objection, odium, pain, rancor, rankling, repugnance, repulsion, resentment, revenge, revulsion, scorn, shudders, spite, trouble, venom."

(synonyms for "hate" from thesaurus.com)

54. um.... i can..... and flame away....
.... but i do feel very sorry for him as a human being. Regardless of his motives, or his unspeakable crimes against everything he has touched,- (and i'm AWARE of the damage he has done)... i do feel a sorrow, that he is a fellow human being- and has so little... control, or ..insight... or empathy in himself, that he can do what he does, and not want to commit suicide.

No conscience? or so deeply in denial, or so narcissistic, that he cannot see the blood on his hands, and the mess he has made. I can only speak for myself- but i have ...'loved'... 2 people who were of similar personalities, with FAR less power. And i couldn't help feeling so sad that they were who they were, and would have to some day live, or die with that history.- Would anyone who was actually 'sane' ever choose to do what he has done????

Please don't see this as any kind of 'justification'- but along with the rage, disgust, and hate i feel for him,- or more accurately for what he has 'gotten away with' - i feel so glad that i can see him for what he is, sorry that he is the way he is, and frustrated that i can't stop him, or wake him up.-

Maybe that's why i've had the life i have- i'm a sucker for lost causes.

He DOESN'T deserve 'sympathy' Kentuck, you are completely right, but i don't deserve anything i've gotten either, - the good, or the bad.

peace-
it's ok to hate me for this stand. I don't know why i can't stop empathizing.

58. Kentuck,
i hope you don't see my perspective as anything but the skewed view of a person who comes from a 'wierd place'- I'm not calling you judgemental AT ALL- you have every right to feel as you do, and everyone else here, and to a great degree share the feelings, it is just as i ...turn away, or imagine myself BEING bush, i can't help but feel like- "oh GOD, what have i done"-

I needed to adopt this view, so that i could allow myself to feel love for my mother, forgiveness of my ex husband, and most importantly, forgiveness of myself, for the things i have allowed, encouraged, and done in my own life. I think the best thing that could ever happen for bush, is that he live long enough to understand what he has done, and longer still to have to feel the remorse, perhaps even long enough to speak out about why the way he lived and things he did were so wrong.-

eternal sunshine of a not so spotless mind?

Prison or execution. He deserves nothing else. After a trial, a trial more fair than anything he'd afford anyone else. I feel sympathy for him the same way I feel sympathy for any living organism, but only for the living organism that is his person, it's little animal pieces that make up our bodies in total...not for his spirit overall.

In most ways, he's already dead. Just taking trying to take us all along with him. Like any good totalitarian ruler.

People voted for this guy. I actually put the responsibility for what goes on, onto those who voted for him. I guess a lot of rich people like him for keeping them rich, and he has conned the rest. Should there be sympathy for people who are so easily conned?

To irresponsbily start a war has got to be one of man's worse crimes. Maybe if he went to Iraq and fought side by side with the men there, I might have a little respect for him, but not sympathy.

70. Knowing so much more about the person rather than the image..
I would have to say no. Its pretty hard to care about someone who obviously shows little caring for others other than in his prepared speeches written by another.
