Christian Responses to Pat Robertson
Of course the "usual suspects" from the religious left have denounced Robertson's remarks about Hugo Chavez. Jim Wallis of Sojourners has called him "an embarrassment to the church". But even conservative Al Mohler, dean of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary has said of Robertson, "He has brought embarrassment upon us all."

"With so much at stake, Pat Robertson bears responsibility to retract, rethink, repent, and restate his position on this issue. Otherwise, what could have been a temporary lapse of judgment can become an enduring obstacle to the Gospel."

American Family Association spokesman Ed Vitagliano objected to a call for violence in the name of Christ

"We do not think it is a Christian thing to do to call for assassination of another country's leader. We understand the nation does things it thinks it should to preserve survival, but for someone who is a minister we feel greater care should be taken in representing the name of Christ. The name of Christ should not be mixed in, even accidentally, with the call for an assassination."

1. So both the Christian Right and Left have condemned Robertson
Guess that leaves Bush** the odd man out then. What sort of Christian is he that he hasn't chimed in, I wonder? Hmm....

2. No suprise about the response from Jim Wallis...
but as for the others, all I can say is about damned time! Maybe they will begin to understand the damage to Christ's gospel that all their words and actions are causing. Christians are supposed to live/act in such a way that makes others want what they've got. Somewhere along the line they've struck out in that regard. I'm thankful for Jim Wallis, Sojourners and others of that ilk. Let us hope that as Robertson/Dobson/Falwell/Reed, etc., shoot themselves in the foot, Wallis'and others' voices will rise above the fray.

3. Well, it's a start
If we Christians can get upset about invoking the name of Christ in the call for the assassination of a single person, perhaps there's hope that we won't invoke the name of Christ for slightly larger acts of violence -- like, say, war.

4. Pat Robberson wishes he could talk to these fellow christians.
He wants to tell them, "Don't you understand? I'm fighting for you. I'm fighting for all Americans' survival. Our survival is at stake. This monster, Hugo Chavez, has decided to let China come in and pump oil. That's absolutely unacceptable to us. We will not let this happen".

You see, Pat has the "inside scoop" in Washington. He gets to hear things that other Christian ministers don't get to hear. Pat is friends with people in high places, like George Bush and Dick Cheney.

He understands the way things REALLY are, not some idealistic pie-in-the-sky naivete.

"You've got to be pragmatic, if you're a shepherd". "You've got to protect your flock".

5. So if you don't mention Christ it's OK to call for the assassination of a
head of state?? Man! These people are nuts!

6. Bumper sticker
I've been playing around trying to make a bumper sticker, 'cept I'm not the one with the graphic talent in the family.

7. Now if they would only follow their same logic with Iraq
Is war a Christian thing especially when we were never attacked or even threatened by Iraq? How is this different with calls to "take out" Saddam? except that we are killing thousands upon thousands of innocent civilians in the process. If only these so called christians would actually read the words of Christ and not the very contradictive Old Testiment.

8. While listening to C-SPAN this am
Brian was reading an article on Pat Robertson. The writer said, he has seen the bumper sticker on cars, "Jesus is my co-pilot," but never has he seen any that says "Jesus is my hitman."
