Did anyone else see the map that was on RawStory for a short |
|
while this morning? On the front page. It had a red dot for the home of record of each GI killed in Iraq. I was at work and couldn't do much except look at it, but it sure appeared to me that the blue states are giving up a lot more dead for BushCo than Jesusland is. Anyone have a link to that map? Did anyone see it and think the same thing I did?

1. Well, there are more people in the blue states, so you'd expect that. |
|
How many dying per capita would tell you something.

6. This is mostly a visceral, visual reaction, but compare Florida |
|
(where the idiot-in-chief's brother is Governor) to Wisconsin, a much, much smaller, blue state. Plus, I am told that lots of military people list Florida as their residence because of the low taxes here. I suppose the repukes would argue that people from blue states don't know how to fight or something, but I see conspiracies everywhere these days, including in this map.

5. Yeah, there is a post, but that sort of graphic is badly flawed. |
|
The deaths need to be normalized to rates per population base.
It might have gotten pulled because many people realize it is junk...more _numbers_ of soldiers come from metro population centers and metro population centers tend to be democratic.
One or two deaths of soldiers in Wyoming might be a higher rate of deaths than all those New York.

7. I agree that this is subject to visual interpretation that could be |
|
way off, but compare Wisconsin and Florida or Texas and California.

But it is a very good counterpoint to the map we always see of mostly red.
If they can argue that most of the country is Republican based on the redness of that map, we can counter that most of the military comes from blue states.
They both aren't real arguments, because cow's in wyoming don't vote or join the armed services.
