Clark will be on Meet the Press Sunday. |
|
General Clark will be appearing this Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press with Tim Russert to discuss the war in Iraq and the success strategy he outlined in today's Washington Post op-ed.
Hopefully, this will finally put an end to "The Democrats have no ideas except to cut-and-run" which has become Rove's favorite new mantra.

3. Clark is really coming out like the point man, isn't he? |
|
We're going to need all Dem leaders who have had military experience to cooperate and work on this one together. The first thing we need to do is restore confidence to the American public. I think everyone realizes that the last 5 years have been a fraud and that there is now a void in the leadership of this country.

14. I might prefer Feingold/Clark personally |
|
But really either one would work. Those 2 would seem to make a great team.

2. In the "Meet The Press" email I received.... |
|
it says it will be like a "war council". Russert's going to have several generals on to discuss what's going on in Iraq and what to do about it.
Gen. Wesley Clark (Ret.), Former Supreme Allied Commander, Europe; Gen. Wayne Downing (Ret.), Former Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Special Operations Command; Gen. Barry McCaffrey (Ret.), Former Commander-in-Chief, U.S. Southern Command; and Gen. Montgomery Meigs (Ret.), Commanding General, U.S. Army, Europe.
Should be real interesting

8. Is McCafferty working at Homeland Defense |
|
Anyway, McCafferty was very pro-war.
Nevertheless, he once called Wes a national treasure.
It should be interesting, and I hope Wes is not on a video feed. Russert forgets about them.

McCaffrey did support going to the war. But he recently said, after a visit in theater, "The wheels are coming off." I'll be very curious to see what he has to say on Sunday.
From what I hear, he and Wes Clark are pretty good friends, or at least respect each other greatly. They were professors at West Point together. Much later, McCaffrey was one of the Gulf War division commanders who trained his unit at Ft Irwin before deploying. He was reported to be very happy with the preparation his troops got from Clark's operation there, believing that it helped save his soldiers' lives in battle. And I think I remember reading that it was McCaffrey who, as the outgoing J-5, recommended Clark for the job to Shalikashvilli, who was then the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs.
McCaffrey came to Clark's defense when Shelton and Franks attacked, but he never did endorse his candidacy. And he didn't endorse either Bush or Kerry either. I think he doesn't like to get involved in politics per se. Whether it's because he doesn't think it's his place as a former military officer, or he's trying to protect his position as a media commentator, or he's afraid someone will bring up some of the skeletons in his military closet, I don't know.

15. McCaffery is smart and he's not an asshole. |
|
He also gets along well with Clark. My point is that McCaffery will not just go out and spout off.

It seems he's been rather exclusive to FAUX since the deal started...

but Wes Clark was not the favorite of any of the big electronic media channels from what I saw. Most ignored him or went along with the smears....so, I am not surprised that he continues not to be the media Darling a la Biden, McCain and H. Clinton.
Hell, the WSJ didn't even want to publish the op-ed that he finally got into WAPO today.

I thought it might be exclusive....but here he is on MTP....Just really curious about the deal....for how long? Or if it is over, is it more ad hoc which frees him up for other things???

18. They certainly are no longer using him in primetime! |
|
He kicked so much egotistical primetime butt the first cuple of weeks he was on, those RW primadonnas won't have him on anymore! They put him on earlier and earlier with every blonde bimbette they can find to read him questions. They really aren't using him to the best of his abilities, for sure. It's a shame.

21. On the bright side, every doctor's office I've gone to recently |
|
has FAUX on!! So, if nothing else, in the mornings he has a captive audience in a lot places.
Frankly, those couple of appearances on Hannity and O'Reilly didn't really please me that much. He was reduced to that interruption/raise the voice stuff, which isn't as becoming or statesmanlike as I prefer him to be. Screaming is not his style...I'd rather have him with the little bimbettes etc during the days keeping his dignity. Some of his comments on the screamfests seemed a bit too "cooperative" or "softened" before the screaming by Hannity started so I prefer him doing straight stuff with a more dignified manner. Seeing him full throttle on MTP was the best I've felt about all this is a long time....

|
The answer is "no" his contract does not limit any appearances he wants to make. CNN too busy interviewing Cohen, and Granger.
