4. here's my "hope for" script

i see the "left" as focussed on two major issues ... one is withdrawal from Iraq and the other is the corporate stranglehold on our Party ...

thus far, many "moderates" have aligned themselves with the DLC because the "left" refused to compromise on their principles and support more moderate Party candidates going forward ... moderates have seen this as inflexible; the left has seen this as the only choice they have because the Party has refused to represent their views ...

but things seem like they MAY be about to change; if they do, it could lead to a significant realignment ... we may be seeing the first waves of this on DU ...

so, what's the "hope for" script?

Dean, Clark and Kerry finally call for withdrawal from Iraq ... this may take a week, or a month or even several months ... Iraq is over and done folks; stick a fork in it ... we are out of there ... with these Democrats joining the left in calling for withdrawal, a major obstacle to moderate-left unity will be removed ...

as for "corporatism", the Dean people are already pushing hard to build alternative sources of funding ... and I see no passion from Clark or Kerry, and certainly not from their supporters, to turn down the energies, the grassroots energies, of Party activists ... the details of finding unity around the issue of corporate control of the Party will still need to be worked out ... but i don't see differences here dividing us as strongly as views about the war ...

so i hold out at least the hope that moderate Dems and lefties will find enough common ground to build some unity ...

having said that, and there is no room left for their anti-left divisive disdain, the DLC must go ... the phrase DLC moderates was nothing but propaganda ... the moderates in OUR Party are not DLC ... they don't support the DLC's views on hawkish militarism, alienating the anti-war wing, or sucking up to anti-populist corporate funders ...

all of this is predicated on what happens in Iraq, but that's my best guess, my most hopeful script, from here ... it is time for the center and the left to be rejoined to take our party back from the corporate intruders ... when we do, we will pave the way back to our party's majority status ...
