Angry at BushCo lies & crime? Boycott Fox News.
In watching the Bush Administration unfold over the past 5 years, I've grown used to feeling both angry and powerless. I recognize that my government has become so corrupt that it's acting against the American people. They have covered up grave wrongs they've committed - sometimes with the collusion of the press. They've lied about threats to our safety to dupe us into war. They've mismanaged everything they've touched since day one. Listing everything the Bush Administration has done that makes me angry would take more space than this forum allows.

I recognize my anger needs to be channeled into constructive protest. So I spent some time thinking last night on what actions I might take to get the message across to the Bush Administration that their tactics are NOT acceptable to the American people. Then I thought of their primary propaganda arm - Fox News. If there's a target worthy of protest, it's Fox News.

As a citizen who respects and honors the rights we were granted in the constitution, I am appalled by the collusion between the press and the government. The disastrous results we've seen can be placed as much at the doors of the press as it can at the White House. Would Valerie Plame have been outed if the White House knew the press would spill the beans about who done it?

What we need is a boycott of the most egregious collaborator with Bush Crimes - Fox News - to send a message to this administration and to other press outlets that we, the American people, will NOT tolerate our media being turned into a government propaganda arm. We will NOT tolerate collusion by the media in government crimes against the American people. The goal of the boycott would be to take Fox News viewership to 0%.

If you're angry at high gas prices, boycott Fox News, who spread Bush propaganda and got him elected. If you're angry about the Iraq war, boycott Fox News, who eagerly spread Bush propaganda about the dangers Iraq posed to the US. If you're angry about the whitewash of the Plame leak, boycott Fox News, who has had less coverage of this crime than any other media outlet, and has spun Rove clean. If you're angry about Dem unwillingness to challenge the Republicans in Washington, boycott Fox News, who has brainwashed the American people with a carefully crafted propaganda message from the White House. If you feel so angry that you can't contain it, give your anger voice by boycotting Fox News, who has been the campaign lead for both Bush elections.

I, personally, am going to send an email to Fox News telling them exactly what I intend to do. I'm also going to send an email to the other networks to let them know that if they continue the collusion and whitewash for this administration - they're next. Then I intend to turn my channel away from Fox News, never to return.

If you are interested in joining me in expressing anger by boycotting Fox News, here is a listing of their media holdings:

If boycotting Fox News doesn't get the message across, then I intend to start boycotting Fox News advertisers. I don't have to tune in to find out who their advertisers are.

In looking for a list of Fox News advertisers, I found this web site for a Fox Boycott that was already on the web. These guys are way out in left field, but they do have a nice list of advertisers that I can use without needing to actually view the propaganda on Fox News.

1. Most of us...

have actually been doing this for the past several years, since their leanings became apparent. The ones that aren't watch it in a "know your enemies" type of way so they can document what is being said and done there.

Welcome to the bandwagon!

have boycotting faux news for the last few years. It's hard to watch "fair and balanced" news :sarcasm:

Thanks for a list of their advertisers, I will add them to my list of boycotted companies along with those on Buyblue.org.

3. I'm glad I'm not alone.
I thought it was important to get the message across to them WHY I'm boycotting, and that their actions directly contributed to my decision. I also wanted them to know that it is a boycott.

4. Look at O'Lielly's falling ratings
It shows more Americans are doing the same thing, turning off Fox News.

5.  not only do i boycott F-X News
( I blocked them on my tv, a major tech feat for me, lol ) I boycott every establishment that has FoxNews on, as in my local Macy's, which had it on All the time in the women's fitting room areas w/ instructions on the screens that FN was to remain on.

after a back/forth exchange w/ Macy's brass, I cut up my cards and sent them back. I do not know if Macy's still broadcasts this crap because I have not set foot in Macy's since.

Have You seen the Outfoxed documentary ? It is most excellent !!

11.  check out your macy's

in mine, the screens were in the ladies fitting room areas supposedly for the enlightenment of the men waiting for them. except on only one occasion did i see anyone waiting there and that was when the WH had those films out w/ * pushing his SS plan.

the other times, during the invasion, etc, it was ALL FN. the answer i got from the salesperson was that 'the store had spent so much $ on the screens that they had to be used.'. BS then why did the little signs say that the screens HAD to be on FN or some other sports network? Well, I never saw the sports only FOX. and the volume was LOUD. so i would sidle up to them to turn the volume down.

the answer i got from the brass was that they were providing information. i asked why not CNN or MSNBC ( at least ). NO ANSWER FROM THE BRASS.

Of course i refused to spend any money there and my blood would be boiling on my way out.

i have access to retiree discounts ( i once got an expensive bracelet there for one cent ) but i will never shop there again.

i asked around on DU once and some others had noticed FN also. since i live across from the mall and used to be quite a shopper, i noticed it more. i refuse to go in there even just to check. it's over between me and macy's.

7. The only way to put pressure on Fox News is to
call your cable company and demand a package without Fox News. If they can't provide such a package, cancel your subscription. Then call or write your cable company's headquarters and explain your actions.

As long as Fox News is getting your money, they don't care what you thing.

9. They also have advertisers.
The cost of TV spots are based on viewership. If ratings go down, Fox can't charge as much for spots. That leads to lower revenues.

10. Does the cable company know which channel an individual
household is watching?

I'm not sure, but I think the Nielsen company still monitors just a select few. If you aren't one of their test families, it doesn't really matter whether you watch or not. And Fox is getting your money, as well as continuing to be offered "free" on the most common program packages without objection from a member of the progressive community.

The surest way is to confront the cable companies directly. If Fox weren't on their standard packages, it's viewership would go down precipitously.

P.S. I have confronted my cable company (Charter) on this and no longer have cable service. I don't miss it a bit. More time for reading and music! And I get more than enough sports on my local broadcast stations, more actually than I should waste time watching.
