Max Cleland was great on Blitzer. "Time to grab bull by tail and look in
it's face." (he said he was quoting WC Fields) He had great talking points and wouldn't let Wolf talk over him or distract him.

He had some other great quotes about the Iraqi tribes have been squabbling and fighting with each other for thousands of years so Civil War would be nothing new there. That was in answer to Wolf asking if "Civil War" wouldn't be a possibility if we pulled out.

He didn't let Wolf pin him down about "timetables" but kept pointing out we went to war for reasons that weren't true. He mentioned NO WMD, NO NUKES, NO SADDAM TERRORISM. And, said that now Iraq was the training ground for all terrorists when it wasn't before. He said Brits are going to be pulling out next year and so will be all on US.

He compared Iraq to Vietnam and is worried about the deaths of all over our troops..76 so far this month. Blitzer then said: "But the Iraqi's are dying, too..over 30,000 of them." Cleland answered: "Our troops are Killing Them!"

He used great folksy expressions and kept hammering about Gen. Shinseki saying that we needed to go in there with troops to win it but Bush didn't listen.

Anyone catch it and can remember more what he said?

1. People are always trying to get me to support the status quo
I say put people like Max Cleland in charge and get rid of the Nod-your-heads, I want people to represent the interests of this
nation and not fawn over Biker boy.

7. And they did not "cut his mics" or "send him anthrax."
As the same voices you are speaking of often claim would happen if a national DEM were to speak like Hackett, Max or Conyers.

2. I watched it. Your write-up is very good.
When Cleland said the Brits are going to be pulling out next year and the US will be all alone, he added "even without a Tonto". Yes, Max was really good. I sure wish he was still in the Senate.

5. You mean they "allowed" him on TV- and did not cut his mics?
All these DUers keep saying that Kerry, Dean, Reid, Obama etc cant say these kinds of of statements for those reasons.

WE ARE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS, PEOPLE! ;)

9. Blitzer tried. He repeated a clip of Chimp's clueless snip about Katrina
Apparently the Sattelites lost the video clip of Bush's first "address to the nation" and just had garbled sound with a photo." CNN wanted to make sure they interrupted Cleland's inteview to "re-broadcast" a clip of Chimp. Cleland didn't miss a beat, though. Don't know why CNN didn't interrupt Pat Roberts (that bloviating "know it all") instead of Cleland. Maybe the CNN engineers just couldn't sinc the clip in time, though so will give them a pass on that one.

11. While I'm generally sympathetic with your cause...
The true test will be to see when he comes back on.

I'll guarantee that it will be MONTHS, right now.

There's more than one way to cut off a mic.

12. Just like they do to Dean, Bill & Hilary, Kerry, Obama, etc.

No one would ever have ratings disasters like them on their shows. Especially if they try to "slip in" a banned Max Cleland quote.

And that Charles Rangel- he was on FOX once a few years ago- but as soon as he said somthing bad about Bush, its like he fell off the planet or somthing.

14. I'm trying to make sure no one pisses down anyone elses neck...
..and tells them it's raining.

As GA Senator, Cleland was a centrist in nearly every respect.

This is not about "centrists"- its about telling the blunt, unvarnished truth about Bush & his war.

Centrists like Hackett & Cleland gain the respect of Liberals, Moderates, so-called Reagan Democrats- because they are unafraid to fight & tell the truth- and you dont have to make up stories of "censorship" or "anthrax" to defend them.

15. Exploring...
What differentiates an Establishmentarian? from a "truthteller?"

Note that both Hackett and Cleland are out of power.

16. As we know, Hackett tore at Bush during a close, heated election.
Compare Hackett-speak to Cleland's poorly run, "Me too" '02 campaign.

Cleland knows his mistake- and has done a 180- going after the GOP/Bush like he should have done during his campaign, Hackett never made these mistakes to begin with.

An office holder being afraid of how someone will spin his comments, or how someone will reprimand him "behind the scenes" is different from the claims/excuses of censorship, physical threats, etc. that I read on DU.
