has a link on the home page to some site called "Alexa" that ranks the traffic for different websites. Apparently, them's thats in charge of the Free Republic are very proud of their traffic ranking of 1590.

So I looked up the DU on the Alexa site and the traffic rating for THIS site is....

I read the thing about how they computed their rankings and it said the ranking number was a combination of page views and...ok, something else I wasn't paying attention to...and I thought the higher ranking number was better.

What made me think the traffic there would be slower than the traffic here was that the boards didn't seem to move as fast. I wasn't really reading anything (I started to, but it made me want to scream), just flipping around the site, but I can barely keep up with the threads here and things just didn't seem to be moving as much there.

Doesn't mean there is anywhere near 75K DU'ers. I don't know if that number is dead wooded but all the freepers that sign and get booted still show up as a user.

Many other sites will put a 90 day restraint on users. Post at least once within 90 days or be dropped from the registration list. Thats really the only way you can verify the real users from the booted out loser's.
