The blame game is going to start, now that the nation has turned against the war. It's going to be our fault. IMHO, somebody ought to be pushing the idea that Republicans will be avoiding all responsibility for it, which is a joke, of course. And the only good thing about Republicans painting Democrats as anti-American pacifists is that it obscures the fact that our spinelss leaders were in step with * from the start. Talk to me, though, leftylady.

10. Of course it's Bush's war |
|
But that won't stop the Mighty Republican Wurlitzer from blasting that the whole thing was some kind of shifty Democratic plot all along. And we have a hard core of credulous citizens who will believe anything at all (or nothing at all) as long as they see it on the teevee.

Schaivo? That's about it.
People will believe the easiest thing that absolves them of guilt & complicity. Pointing the finger at an internal enemy is Fascism 101.

think back: did you expect the whole friggin' country, the whole media, everything that moved to follow * blindly into war in the first place? nothing reasonable about it, and neither is it reasonable to blame democrats for *'s mismanagement. So get ready for it.

20. Bush's war, but still our fault the US lost. |
|
I mean, what else ARE they going to say?
If Cindy Sheehan can be personally blamed for GIs getting killed in Iraq, and Kerry blamed for losing Vietnam, then they are going to blame those who wouldn't let Bush get the job done for the loss.
It doesn't matter if Bush announces the withdrawal himself, now, this year or next year. After all, who signed a treaty with North Vietnam and bugged out of Vietnam? Nixon. Who do they blame? Kerry and hippies and peaceniks.

11. based on the fact that none of their discourse has been thoughtful, honest |
|
or indicated any responisbility for their past, present, or future actions. If you're going to tell a lie, tell a whopper (Hitler, paraphrased). Get ready for the next whopper, after nukes in Iraq, Al Q's ties to Saddam, etc etc etc
More importantly, whether or not they blame us, prepping the media for it again makes the point that it's *'s war and that Reps don't ever take responsibility for what they do.

21. I've been seeing this for months. |
|
The people who are against the war are giving aid and comfort to the enemy. When we lose, it'll be all our fault.
In fact, can you think of a single repug "strategy" for the war except for everyone to shut up and get behind it? So when we don't, who is responsible?
Yes, its stupid, but who do they blame for losing Vietnam: Nixon, the guy who treated with the NOrth Vietnamese and bugged out; or the hippies/Kerry?

15. How about those Democrats who were not in a position to vote |
|
but were talking supportively at that point? Those who can now change their tune and don't have a vote registered that they have to hang by their thumbs by, if you know what I mean.
Too easy and not fair just to hold Congressfolks accountable. Others in public office should be made to face their words as well, even if they didn't have to vote.

Every last one you Coward Republicans RESIGN NOW! Then we will fix your Mess. Otherwise we will do another kind of piloting. We will wash our hands of this and just Walk Away singing. We'll leave you stuck to your Iraq Tar Baby. Either way your going down! This gives them an opportunity to do something Good for the country.
It's the truth. It's actual. It very matter of factual. Zipiddy do dah. Zippity Aye. My oh my, what a wonderfull day. Plenty of Sunshine headed our way. Mr. Bluebird on my shoulder.
It's better to sing the Song of South late than never. Iraq went South long before it went East. Aye Bra'er Rabbit?

If candidates are hesitant - like a certain presidential candidate I won't mention - they'll have us responsible for the hurricane, the war, bird flu and the cost of gas. This is Dubya's war, plain and simple, and the people in this country need to be beaten over the head with that fact.

Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 04:37 PM by WePurrsevere
off this war, who's is fighting and dying and who's children are staying safely at home.
In a way this is a war... we DUers and many other Dems (Progressives/Liberals), left and moderate leaning folks are Patriots fighting for our beloved country and truly are the ones supporting the troops. IMO we need some preemptive strikes of our own. State what "we" believe in.. what we would do differently and keep hammering the message. One thing that might hit home is to speak the truth about the cutbacks to the Vet benefits, the lack of armor, the lack of an exit plan, the BIG and very permanent looking bases built there, etc. Hopefully smart Progressive politicians will pick up the drumbeat if they haven't already.
This may sound odd but for some reason the story of Horton Hears a Who has been coming to mind a lot lately... "we are here, we are here, we are HERE" we just need to keep speaking the truth... keep getting the word out. IME with the Internet we have an amazing tool and we need to keep using it.. it gives us a voice even when the corp media doesn't want to let us speak it.
Okay I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here and but I feel that we can beat the Republicans with the light and message of TRUTH.

26. Almost half of Senate Dems voted against IWR, 2/3rds of House Dems did |
|
Let's get serious: "voted for the war" is total crap. The vote was to give the president the authority to go to war once all other diplomatic means had been exhausted. NOBODY EVER VOTED FOR WAR.
22 Democratic Senators voted against it, whereas only ONE Republican did. 127 Democratic Representatives voted against it, whereas only 6 Republicans did. This was the fault of the Republicans.
Democrats also inserted language making it specific to Iraq; the administration wanted a blank check to trample and kill anyone.
Remember: this was done in early October of 2002; it was just before the very first election after 9-11, and the lies were used to tie Saddam to that attack. Only two Democratic Senators who were standing for re-election voted against it: Levin, a grand old man of true courage, and Paul Wellstone, who was 6 points ahead in the polls and conveniently died the day before he would automatically be on the ballot.
Wellstone was killed; don't fool yourself. Cleland was so ratfucked in that election by Diebold that they had to dissolve the Voter News Service (a consortium of ABC, NBC and CBS that had been in existence since the early 50s) to cover the problem. Cleland was up by 3-5 points going into the election, the exit polls confirmed this, and suddenly he lost. The money poured into trying to crush Mary Landrieu didn't work; she won.
Virtually all of the Republicans supported war, and they went along with the folly of not properly supporting it. It is THEIR fault. It is all their fault. As Cleland put it: they scared the pants off of America to get their way. They left us vulnerable to profit. They held up the Homeland Security Department (created by Democrats and fought against by Republicans) unless they could take away union protection from 170,000 government employees. It's MUCH more important to fuck the weak than it is to protect the nation, and their actions consistently show it.
