SOS! Anyone got the phone number for Mission Control in Iraq?
EMERGENCY! EMERGENCY! I`m taking over for the Commander in Chief since he`s busy lounging in California, all tanned and buff. Got to hand it to him....he`s got this wake-me-when-it`s-over thing down pat. Just like during the Vietnam War. What a guy.

I want to reach the Louisiana and Mississippi National Guard units stranded in Iraq. Thought I could test this new Iraq "democracy" by asking each of them to vote either "yes" or "no" on coming home to help their family and friends. Katrina wrecked their states.

After a nine-month boycott of cable news, I bypassed Tucker Carlson and turned on CNN tonight, knowing full well Daryn Kagan would be getting her beauty sleep so I wouldn`t have to deal with her. Aaron Brown was taking a heart-wrenching report from Jeanne Meserve that reduced me to tears. People drowning in their attics, animals caught in electric lines, horrible situations, devastating report. They could use a few extra National Guard units.

I started thinking about George W. Bush. Bar-B-Q-er. Bike rider. Cake eater. Jogger. Brush cutter. Mr. Fun in the Sun. Mr. Fake Cowboy. All of a sudden this thought almost blew my head off my shoulders: This craven, AWOL demon has two wars going on, a couple of states are under water and he`s frolicking in California. He`s not even fit to be a meter maid, let alone our president.

... the devastation caused by Katrina and the vastly larger devastation caused by the craven, coward, pretender to the presidency who now is rivaled by no person in history for premeditated perpetration of evil.

Peace.

2. Remember that big picture of Bush as Alfred P. "what, me worry" Newman
on the cover of the Nation.

It's not a joke. The guy is a pathological narcissist. Clinton got made fun of for saying, "I feel your pain." This guy feels no one's pain, except his own.

At least Reagan as a trained actor could fake leadership while not actually leading. Bush can't even do that.

What a POS. How can this great land have such a insignificant nothing as a leader?

Well, the good thing is that now Americans get to see what happens when the federal government really does nothing for them . . . Let's see how they like it.

9. I Love This Picture
I have it on my car. It's less likely, I hope, to cause some jerk to key my ride, yet still demonstrates my feelings about Bush. What an idiot!

6. While you're at it, recall the Guard units from the western states
....so they can return to fight wildfires.

What an oxymoron. Is that near the Military Intelligence building? Or near the headquarters of the "Compassionate Conservatism" movement.

8. You make vivid again the central truth.
George W. Bush has no interest in people in any kind of trouble. They are not his kind of people.

10. Excellent, excellent rant -- sometimes your blood just boils over...
and you've had all you can take from this idiot and the cabal behind him. This is one of those times. I always recall an SNL sketch before the 2000 election that showed the little Shrub speaking as President with a map of the US behind him. Among other things, the Great Lakes were afire, and Mexico had reclaimed all of its former territory. Little did we know how prescient that sketch would be re. Bush's incompetence and lack of concern.

11. This is just an excellent post!
I couldn't have said nearly as much if I wrote a book about the subject. I am in awe of the pinpoint elegance of it!

Thanks, democrank, for this post. Recommended, and then some!

12. And one last thing....
Someone needs to get to the Beautiful Newsreaders on TV and dish out a crash course in Real American Life 101. Let`s put a halt to these ridiculous "I don`t understand why they didn`t heed the mandatory evacuation" comments. Too bad the water levels in Mississippi and Louisiana weren`t as shallow as these airheads.

Surprise! There are poor people living in the U.S.of A. Some can`t afford a car. Some don`t have bus fare. Some don`t have a cellphone. Some don`t have 24/7 cable news. Some figured they could ride out the storm....just like they did when their mate left or when they lost their job. Some people`s only asset is fortitude.

We rarely hear about poor folks on any version of Your Nation Tonight newscast. One of the most sobering things TV producers could do right now is offer up a split screen: On the left, a shot of the elderly man from Louisiana wading all so alone with his half-full garbage bag. On the right, a shot of the palace that housed the First Playboy last night.

16. re.. and one last thing
The Rethug's summation of the fate of those who "chose" to ride it out:

The Democrats/Liberals are to blame for the loss of life in Mississippi and Louisiana. If the bleeding hearts hadn't created such a welfare state, those people that perished would have gotten off their butts and made something of themselves and would have been able to evacuate. They asked for this by being lazy ...

Great summation! The Oval office marionette is totally out of touch with the real world. I believe his vacation is a result of his puppeteer needing some time off.

15. Bush's Negligence Is No Surprise
New Orleans didn't vote for him, and is 70% black. In his sick mind this is a great way to get even with them for not bowing down to him on election day. It's the same thing he's done regarding the California wildfires: help the counties that voted for you, and ignore the counties that didn't. What an evil fuck.
