Exit Polls - Who's Winning?
Edited on Tue Jan-27-04 12:42 PM by Jack_Dawson
I heard Clark won the votes of two tiny hamlets in Northern New Hampshire, but haven't heard anything since.

Or is it like they are they not allowed to broadcast that kind of stuff until the polls close at 8:00 EST?

1. Don't Think You Get Those Until Tonight
I don't think they can broadcast information on voting while the polls are still open.

2. its generally agreed that they will not divulge this
so as to not influence those who have yet to vote. Its the right thing to do.

5. Are you nuts? Since when have they waited for the polls to close
They're already trashing Clark on CNN and Fox w/out conclusive results and the polls won't close for 8 more hours.

4. Some close at 7, some at 8;
Polls close 7:00p EST (0000 UTC) / 8:00p EST (0100 UTC). NEW HAMPSHIRE permits its 13 cities to keep their polls open until 8 PM EST by local option- however, as there ARE only 13 cities among New Hampshire's 234 County subdivisions , the fact is that the vast majority of NH's polls have closed by 7 PM EST and the networks have no problem considering this hour as the earliest hour of potential projection

8. why i think the gop is afeered of Clark:
You hardly ever hear his name uttered nor do you get many pix or clips of him in the crazier (ie: murdoch) organs.

I've got some mediawhore aggression I'd like to get out.

Just a joke people! I'm not threatening any DUers - just some good-natured venting.

13. That's what happens when Clark supporters
get delusional about NH when the polls tells otherwise.

Clark in first? Bloody unlikely.

15. NH seems to be unusual in that their congressional
delegation are not automatic superdelegates. The best I can tell, the superdelegates have yet to be chosen. So theoretically, even a loser could get at least 5 delegates.

http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P04/NH-D.phtml#0127

(PLEO = Superdelegates)

22 of 27 delegates to the Democratic National Convention are allocated to presidential contenders based on the results of the voting in today's New Hampshire Presidential Primary. A mandatory 15 percent threshold is required in order for a presidential contender to be allocated National Convention delegates at either the congressional district or statewide level.

14 district delegates are to be allocated proportionally to presidential contenders based on the primary results in each of the State's 2 congressional districts.
CD 1: 7
CD 2: 7
In addition, 8 delegates are to be allocated to presidential contenders based on the primary vote statewide.
5 at-large National Convention delegates
3 Pledged PLEOs

Saturday 24 April 2004 - State Convention

The remaining 5 National Convention delegates consist of

4 Unpledged PLEO delegates:
4 Democratic National Committee members
0 Members of Congress (0 Senators and 0 Representatives)
0 Governors
0 Distinguished Party Leaders
1 Unpledged "add-on" (selected by open ballot, majority vote, by a committee of district-level delegates).
These 5 delegates and will go to the Democratic National Convention officially "Unpledged".

16. NH doesn't have any Democrats in Congress
Therefore, there are no Democratic congresspeople to be superdelegates.
