Damned straight he's concerned. Because, unfortunately, many Americans are so selfish and mercenary that they're only starting to sour on him because they have to pay more for gasoline. Remember Clinton's 1992 buzz phrase? "It's the Economy, Stupid." I'm afraid it still is. Only when many Americans feel it in their pocketbooks and bank accounts do they turn on their elected officials. It's a shame, but there you have it.

bushco is correct to be concerned about this. Because they've screwed the pooch, shortsightedly, thinking everything would just be pie in the sky when they gave everybody their cheap-shit tax cuts. And it worked for awhile. But that, and their FUCKING war, have depleted our treasury so there's NO money left for disaster relief, and other issues that REALLY, SERIOUSLY need funding. Like, for example, something Keith Olbermann reported last night: That only a few months ago, the bushies CUT THE FUNDING FOR A PROGRAM THAT WOULD HAVE SHORED UP THE LEVEES IN THE EVENT OF A CATEGORY FIVE HURRICANE. And look what's happened.

Bet on it: you're gonna start hearing grumbling at the self-serve. That's when it might be fun to throw in an "innocent" aside - like maybe "yeah, right. And how's that fabulous dollar-ninety-eight tax cut working out for ya, 'eh? Sure made all MY financial problems go away!!!"

I hope they're worried to death about the wider economic effects of the hurricane. It's about to bite them in the ass - especially when people try to fill up their tanks. We were already paying 3-dollars AND SOME per gallon here in SoCal. Looks like the whole country's in the same boat now. PEOPLE VOTE THEIR POCKETBOOKS. That's very likely the reason why nobody was expected to, or asked to, sacrifice for the war. No rationing. No war bonds. No curfews. No victory gardens. No giving up stuff so the troops could have more. It wasn't supposed to TOUCH our sacred "way of life." So if there's no shared hurt or shared sacrifice at home, to REALLY GENUINELY support the troops, then who gives a fuck? Let's go git them terrists, 'eh? Rah-rah war! No muss no fuss, and nobody here at home has to do any heavy lifting. Especially when it's somebody else's kid being sent over to feed king george's meatgrinder over there. The bushies know this. Bank on it. That's why they're getting worried. When the economy sours, and EVERYBODY is going to feel it, EVERY TIME they try to buy gas, the bushies know they'll be in just a little bit more deep doo-doo.

I wish them MANY sleepless nights. Hopefully it'll drive george back to the bottle and the pills so seriously he'll manifest it in public.
