Hold Bush accountable for the flooding of New Orleans!
Forward this to every news source and ask "WHY?" And "WHY" isn't anybody holding his feet to the fire over this????????Post this EVERYWHERE!
Among emergency specialists, "mitigation" – the measures taken in advance to minimize the damage caused by natural disasters – is a crucial part of the strategy to save lives and cut recovery costs. But since 2001, key federal disaster mitigation programs, developed over many years, have been slashed and tossed aside. FEMA's Project Impact, a model mitigation program created by the Clinton administration, has been canceled outright. Federal funding of post-disaster mitigation efforts designed to protect people and property from the next disaster has been cut in half, and now communities across the country must compete for pre-disaster mitigation dollars.

It appears that the money has been moved in the president's budget to handle homeland security and the war in Iraq, and I suppose that's the price we pay. Nobody locally is happy that the levees can't be finished, and we are doing everything we can to make the case that this is a security issue for us.

-- Walter Maestri, emergency management chief for Jefferson Parish, Louisiana; New Orleans Times-Picayune, June 8, 2004

1. What, exactly, has Bush said or done in response to Katrina?
I haven't been able to watch a lot of hurricane coverage. Has Bush given any statement, issued any directive, or whatever it is a president does when part of the country is in trouble?

Isn't that what a DU'er posted that a local news anchor said (sarcastically) when he reported this in Louisiana?

Surrounding areas as well. And I think it will also damage the entire US economically.

Great post--thank you. :hi:

values help not only in times of trouble, but always.

- Communal efforts (not social darwinism) have the most positive impact,
- Gov't spending on infrastructure and social services is never more clearly neccessary at a time like this, but for the same reasons it's important during disasters, it's important at every other time
- no skimming off the top during the rebuilding by corporations, please. Let's put as much money into the communty (and not into the pockets of connected privateers) as possible. And for the same reason this is important in N.O., it's important in, say, Baghdad.

I think that would be a greater indictment of Bush then some vague, "it's his fault" allegation.

8. Besides cutting the funds for levee upkeep
pResident Weakenstupid sent the aquatic vehicles that the LA National Guard had (plus a big chunk of the Guard itself) to the desert war in Iraq.

And needless to say, there was no planning beforehand, although we knew Katrina was "determined to strike in the US" last week.

The Chimp is cutting short his vacation to pose for photos in DC tomorrow...by then, many of those who could have been saved last night or this morning will be dead.

And we do need to know exactly where that money went instead of where it so obviously belonged.

19. Displaced NO residents should hold a funeral procession in Washington.
I had a dream that all of the displaced residents of New Orleans went to Washington and held a funeral procession.

Bush, his chorines and rubber-stamps should all be held accountable for their actions.

20. Got global warming?
there have of course been many articles about the bushInc.'s denial of global warming as an important issue, and lack of cooperation with much of the world on environmental issues.
I also have read that warmer water temperatures are increasing the number and severity of hurricanes.
It is truley amazing Bush beleives in 'intelligent design but not global warming, He really seems to despise scientast and hod usch disdain for the reality based community.
http://www.commondreams.org/headlines05/0830-03.htm Here is yet another article from the Guardian about Bush's bullying environmental scientist. It all relates.
