They may be asking the same question this winter, if we get hit with an avian flu pandemic. And if that happens, it won't be just the gulf-coast, it will be North America. (and probably south america too)
One thing is for sure: our federal, state and local governments do NOT have plans for these kind of large disasters. Families should prepare to fend for themselves, as much as possible.

Right now 6,500 guardsmen are being deployed in La. alone. Gloating over a natural disaster is rather pathetic.

The numbers break down like this......
National Guard available to help with disaster recovery = 31,700
National Guard available in LA = 6500
National Guard available in Mississippi = 7000
National Guard available in Alabama = 10,000
National Guard available in Florida = 8,200
There are approximately 6,000 National Guard members deployed from LA and Mississippi.
I have no numbers for Florida or Alabama as far as deployed.

I did not mean to imply that the ENTIRE National Guard is in Iraq. But wouldn't it me much better if those units were ar full strength here at home?
