Here is a good queston re: Katrina
A guy at work brought this up: Where are the Louisana, Alabama and Mississippi National Guards these days? Hmmm?

2. A lot of people are asking the same question. About time.
They may be asking the same question this winter, if we get hit with an avian flu pandemic. And if that happens, it won't be just the gulf-coast, it will be North America. (and probably south america too)

One thing is for sure: our federal, state and local governments do NOT have plans for these kind of large disasters. Families should prepare to fend for themselves, as much as possible.

4. National guard
Right now 6,500 guardsmen are being deployed in La. alone. Gloating over a natural disaster is rather pathetic.

6. Not "gloating" at all
I am just pointing out screwed up our national priorities are right now. I am pissed.

5. Here ya go....

The numbers break down like this......

National Guard available to help with disaster recovery = 31,700

National Guard available in LA = 6500

National Guard available in Mississippi = 7000

National Guard available in Alabama = 10,000

National Guard available in Florida = 8,200

There are approximately 6,000 National Guard members deployed from LA and Mississippi.

I have no numbers for Florida or Alabama as far as deployed.

7. Not the point
I did not mean to imply that the ENTIRE National Guard is in Iraq. But wouldn't it me much better if those units were ar full strength here at home?
