First it was phantom WMD's.
Then it was to bring down Saddam Hussein because he was associated with the Talaban and Osama Bin Laden.
Then it was to bring freedom and democracy.
Now he may be finally telling the truth, he's in Iraq to secure the oil fields.

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
August 30, 2005

President Commemorates 60th Anniversary of V-J Day
Naval Air Station North Island
San Diego, California

9:04 A.M. PDT

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all. Thanks for the warm welcome. It's good to be back in California. Good to be here at North Island. This is the birthplace of naval aviation, and I want to thank you for making this son of a naval aviator feel right at home. (Applause.)

<snip>

The terrorists and insurgents are now waging a brutal campaign of terror in Iraq. They kill innocent men and women and children in the hopes of intimidating Iraqis. They're trying to scare them away from democracy. They're trying to break the will of the American people. Their goal is to turn Iraq into a failed state like Afghanistan was under the Taliban. If Zarqawi and bin Laden gain control of Iraq, they would create a new training ground for future terrorist attacks; they'd seize oil fields to fund their ambitions; they could recruit more terrorists by claiming an historic victory over the United States and our coalition.

Our goal is clear, as well. We will defeat the terrorists. We'll build a free Iraq that will fight terrorists instead of giving them aid and sanctuary. A free Iraq will offer people throughout the Middle East a hopeful alternative to the hateful ideology being peddled by the terrorists. A free Iraq will show that when America gives its word, America keeps its word.

That choice -- this is the choice we face: Do we return to the pre-September the 11th mind-set of isolation and retreat, or do we continue to take the fight to the enemy and support our allies in the broader Middle East? I've made my decision: We will stay on the offensive. We will stand with the people of Iraq, and we will prevail. (Applause.)

5. Utter Shite
we'd DESTROY the oil fields before we'd let Zarqawi & his ilk "fund their ambitions" with them. it would be easy, too.

And the Kurds might have a thing or 2 to say about Al Qaeda taking control of Iraq. Not to mention Sistani et al.

6. great choice: Al Qaeda or Exxon-Mobil
right now the "US" controls the oil fields ...

are we all enjoying that?

if our country is going to engage in wars for oil, the choice should be put before the American people in an honest way ... if imperialism is going to be waged in all our names, we should have a national dialog on the issue and a national referendum ...

and whether we endorse such barbarism as a nation or we don't, the mega-profits of such abuses should never accrue to the sole benefit of corporate stockholders in the oil industry ...

it is time to nationalize the oil industry and demand that energy policy is established for the best interests of the American people rather than the greedy little piggies who have strangled our democracy and trashed our good names and our country's prestige and reputation ...

Thats fucking funny Bush, you claimed in a press conference you didn't know where he was and you DIDN'T care. Now you claim he could waltz into Iraq and take over the oil fields.

Jesus, how can those people in attendance listen to that shit??....

10. Playing the fear card along with the high price of oil. He has no shame
If Zarqawi and bin Laden gain control of Iraq, you will pay higher prices at the pump so back the war and don't worry about it.

Reason # whatever to go to war. This one will sell well in the hinderland.

12. Just a thought, but,
do you think they are allowing the oil prices get and stay this high so that when he does say that we are in Iraq for the oil now, the sheeple won't make a peep, and even think he's a good leader?

He knows his base, and knows how to please 'em. All he would have to do is allow a bit of the gas stored by the US for emergencies on the market, and the prices would fall almost immediately. But, he's not doing it.

So it's a win-win for Bush: His oil pals get to gouge us and make obscene profits (keeping his billionaire friends happy) until Bush announces we are in Iraq for the oil (at which point, his grateful sheeple base fall to their knees and thank the Lord for a leader like Bush) and most of the American people don't make a peep as they fill up with all that gas made from Iraqi oil.

Now, Mr. Bush, why did Casey Sheehan die?

13. How the hell was this new information?
Everyone of us here, everyone with brains knew it was to control the oil fields!!!!!!!

The only thing new about this entire trifecta, is Bush is admitting it in public now. That makes him a total disgrace, a desperate fraud just fumbling around in the dark. He wants impeachment and a nice padded prison cell which his colleagues won't receive. Cheney & co are only worthy of the Hague while Bush goes to a nuthouse or clinic.....

15. You miss the point
It is not new to us, it is new in that * is now framing/justifying the war in terms of "us" vs "them" controlling the oil fields.
