WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the Census Bureau's report that the nation's poverty rate rose to 12.7 percent of the population last year, for the fourth year in a row; the number of uninsured increased; and median household income failed to grow.

"Since President Bush took office, 5.4 million more Americans are living in poverty, 6 million more are without health insurance, and families are stretched too thin as household incomes have declined by almost $1,700 in the last four years. Every segment of American society has seen their income decline under this Administration, with the middle class and working families are losing the most ground.

"President Bush and the Republicans in Congress are turning a deaf ear to the middle class and working families struggling to make ends meet. This report shows that the President and Republicans in Congress' decision to increase the deficit, while slashing student loans, heath care programs, and food stamps are the wrong choices for the American people. Republicans should abandon these efforts and join Democrats to expand opportunity for every American."

1. I have honestly come to believe ...
... that it IS Chimpy and the evil cabal's intention to destroy the middle class.

Rapidly rising gas prices, punitive bankruptcy laws, tax breaks for the VERY affluent, soaring health care costs, "Tort" reform ... All have chilling effect ...

4. Of course it is.
They want to create two classes of people: the ruling class and the slave class. That's how all the best dictatorships do it.

6. Look at his policies
And remember, he's a "war" president and the only people who join the military are those who are poor. If Bush did care about us he wouldn't give tax cuts to the rich in a time of war. He wants to make everything privitized or faith-based so that way he can give more tax cuts to the rich and corporations like Haliburton.

2. How can the rich be made much filthier rich if not from the poor and
middle class? And the idolatrous throngs chant: four more years, four more years.

3. Thats what really "killed" me ...
A bunch of slack jawed yokels chanting for that evil swine. ALL of the chanting while it was apparent that the Chimp had nothing but disdain for the working masses.

7. Anyone catch the Commerce Dept news conference this morning?
It was broadcast live by CSPAN.

WaPo, NYT and perhaos 5 or 6 other reporters were in attendance.

WaPo & NYT asked some hard questions, hope they give this the coverage it deserves.

But where the fuck were the national media?

When * travels, he is surrounded by an entourage of reporters. When a significant press event is held, squat.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the media.
