Trent Lott urging Dubya to come to MS, people are "flat on their backs."
6:39 P.M. - JACKSON, Miss. (AP) -- Senator Trent Lott is urging President Bush to visit Mississippi in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, telling the president -- quote -- "the people of Mississippi are flat on their backs. They're going to need your help."

2. But once Pres. Bullhorn Q. Waterbottle appears, people will be just GREAT
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 07:29 PM by hatrack
Why, it'll be nothing but a big jolly sea of sweaty, mosquito-bitten infected-with-dysentary, no-job, no-house, no-family happy happy joy joy when the Comforter-in-Chief makes his token appearance.

Guess they'll have to screen the refugees to make sure he doesn't meet any non-bots.

3. I don't think he should even bother to show up at this point.
He'll have an angry and possibly violent audience.

8. I can certainly understand your anger
it is justified IMO in many ways that I won't bother going into.

I hope you are personally ok and that your friends and family are ok too.

Take care of yourself, * sure won't!

15. I am in Vicksburg MS.
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 07:50 PM by youngdem
Though most of the city is without power, it is still nothing compared to what the southern parts of our state and Louisiana are going through. My best friend came up here to dodge the hurricane from south LA, her mother, brother, father, all of them stayed. She left my house early this morning to find her family. I do not know how she will get back to me, being that there is not many gas stations with fuel left. If anyone needs a place to stay my power is back on and I have plenty of room, PM me.Thank you for your concern.

7. Give the jerkwater a lollipop and tell him to suck it and stay out
of the way.

The relief authorities have enough on their hands without having to serve as props for another Bush photo-op.

9. To say nothing of delegating police and other personnel to protect his ass
Maybe they can take him along as they wade through swamps to retrieve peoples' bodies. Or perhaps he'd be willing to lend a hand unblocking clogged toilets and sewer lines.

Otherwise, he can stay the fuck out and shut the fuck up.

11. people are "flat on their backs"
well tell them to get up - there's work to do! Or does the government have to do everyhing for you? It doesn't take a village, it just takes one strong person, standing on his own two feet, persevering through.... ah hell, I can't do this shit anymore. Sometimes people just need help.

14. Bush caught on vacation again
Unbelievable isn't it? It takes the guy two days to get back to Washington to take charge. It was known last night that the levees had been breached. You would think our "leader" would've understood the implications.

16. Well, he has spent almost a full year on vacation out of less than 5 years
on the job - with stats like that, it is rather likely when a tragedy hits, he is on vacation or on a bike ride which they won't interrupt to tell him what is going on.

Sorry, the bike ride issue has more to do with his "work day" schedule - 8-5 with a 2 hour exercise break.

17. Well uhh hey Trent, why do you ALWAYS shoot down MW increases...
Get a grip hair boy, people in MS have been flat on their backs for a hell of a long time. The State used to always hold the record of the lowest per capita wage of ANY State.

Meanwhile Trent and his Repuke Senators along with House members do the best they can at making sure MW bills get KILLED before they see much light. Your concern NOW is real touching Trent....

and sends the hundreds of thousands of dollars it costs to fly Air Force 1 to those that could use it.

Hell, it's just a photo op. And it doesn't matter who is in the WH. Major waste of taxpayer's money.

Everything the idiot Bush touches turns to poop. Therefore, the last thing these poor people need is the head clown down there to "help" them.

27. I remember the flood of 94 here in Georgia
Clinton was down and checking out the damage. he was on the ball.

But where is Bush? How long does he have to wait to before he speaks to the country. One of the worse disasters in a long time, and we have heard nothing from him.
What a miserable excuse for a 'leader' he is.

28. Bush's people make such a big thing of his "not wanting to intrude"
Implicitly accusing Clinton of getting in the way, just for self-gratification. One of their shills on CNN yesterday was going on and on about how discreet Bush is.

But as you say -- Bush could easily go on TV and reassure the nation, without diverting resources from the relief efforts. A special broadcast, NOT a few words tacked onto a fundraising or rah-rah-Iraq pep talk. Just like he did in the hours after the terrorist attacks ... oh right, he had better things to do then, like "get out of harm's way".
