1. I told you they wouldn't wait until the polls close. They have to
keep talking to crank the ratings!

2. Please...
tell me how this is possible. I thought this wasn't allowed. Doesn't this influence other voters to maybe stay home?

9. All they do is ask people how they voted and report it. Nothing illegal
about it.

Unfortunately, I think it DOES have a negative effect on the process.

21. Too bad we have freedom of the press
Then we could make this illegal.

7. They don't have a
problem being fair to the Repugs. I was angry when CNN "unofficially" called Iowa for Kerry at7:00. They hadn't even started discussing anything yet.

18. I'm talking about average voters...
the people who might be influenced by exit-polling.

I doubt it would stop any of us on DU from voting, even if it was bad news.

10. they love this sort of thing
They won't officially give the results but they will make hints about the direction it is going in--anything to stop people from actually going and vote.

13. I'm not watching but I'll make a guess:Clark is doing better than expected
I'm reading this in between the lines. Fox and CNN are all over him trying to say he is finished. The indies might give him a big showing and they are trying to stave it off. Just a guess.

16. oh, please
Just how many people do you think see an early forecast and change their vote or don't vote? It might have some slight effect if the big broadcast networks did it, but these cable and internet news sources have miniscule audiences, most of whom are political junkies like me who are going to vote no matter what they say.

19. I've Always Thought
that broadcasting early returns would hurt the frontrunner. "My guy's winning, no sense hauling myself to the polls." As opposed to "Yikes, I better get down there, my guy is losing." I guess it deoends on your temperment.

20. Latest from dailykos
Update 2: Here are the 1 p.m. exit poll numbers I've been able to get my hands on (from a media source. Caveat emptor):

LA Times:
Dean 34
Kerry 33

ABC News:

Kerry 37
Dean 31

In both these polls, both Clark and Edwards are hovering around 12 percent.

The National Review's The Corner has Kerry 36, Dean 31, Edwards 12 and Clark 12. Probably the ABC News tracking poll with Kerry's number rounded down.

26. Someone at Daily Kos Claims these are the MSNBC numbers
(I guess we'll see...)

*****

From a former Kennedy staffer (none / 0)

From a former Kennedy press secretary:
MSNBC:
Kerry 37
Dean 29
Edwards 15
Clark 12

The Kerry people believe these numbers will get closer, and that Kerry will win by 5. They also believe Edwards will go up a couple as well.
