I think the short, short, short list would probably be Graham and Edwards.

I don't think Edwards necessarily brings any states with him but he has a lot of intangible factors. He's telegenic, young, southern, a good balance to Kerry.

Graham lacks energy, is old, and is a boring, long-winded speaker. BUT Florida has 27 electoral votes. If you can't win Florida with Graham, you can't win Florida period.

Another idea is Bill Richardson from New Mexico. A hispanic on the ticket would get a lot of buzz.

I didn't even think of Max.

3. Someone who REALLY helps in California,
but I think someone who helps in Florida would also be a worth looking at.

If we are weak in the south, compared to republicans, then being strong in California is very important.

4. I've thought that Edwards would complement Kerry well as VP.
Whereas Kerry is a more stern and serious speaker, Edwards is much more animated and smooth. They both seem to know what they are talking about.

5. Graham, Harkin
Yes, I know Harkin has no chance because of the Dean endorsement, but I always thought he or Graham would complement a ticket with a New Englander on top. Cleland would definitely be interesting.

13. Dick Cheney. They both like the war.
If Kerry gets it I'll be voting Green, so I could care less who he would select.

16. He can only be competative in Florida if Graham is his vp
so the answer is simple.

Graham as his vp, Edwards as his APPOINTMENT for Attourney General.

17. Some thoughts a Kerry/?? Ticket
Being a North-easterner, Kerry needs to move outside of the region. The South could produce some interesting picks: John Edwards, max Cleland, John Breaux, or former Governor Hunt of North Carolina (his gubernatorial resume would compliment Kerry's Senatorial one).

As for Bob Graham, he's a great Democrat but he's just too old and dull to give us much. Plus, his heart attacks could work against him. Plus, with the BFEE in charge, we will not win Florida.

Kerry could also look to the Midwest for a running-mate. Tom Harkin would be a good choice, and so would Iowa Governor Vilsack. Dick Gephardt has proven to be a no-power candidate, so I think he's out.

Kerry could also surprise us with an unconventional choice: Wes Clark, Governor Jeanne napolitano of Arizona, or Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico.

18. Who cares???
He is Skull and Bones, so what difference does it make?

Might as well be Bush since both are entrenched in the same crap.

19. General Clark without a doubt

Kerry could turn over much of the Campaign in the South to him, and
Kerry Vets would also work well with Clark. That would make it
a very consistent grass-root patriotic campaign to take our country back from the treasonous repubs.

He's said on a few occasions that he won't take it; he will stay as Governor.

We'll see.

21. Richardson!!!
Sure he's said he won't do it. Everybody says that.

Look through political history. You won't find a single person who admits any interest in the VP spot on anybody's ticket - until they are asked.

Richardson is ideal. He buttons up NM and CA, helps with the growing Hispanic populations in Colorado and Florida, and maybe gives an outside shot at Arizona.

I think he is the best VP candidate possible, no matter who wins the nomination.

22. I'm finding this scenario attractive
Richardson could bring home CO - getting the hispanic vote out there (and nationwide) would put a lot of places in play. There's a reason why Ken Salazar (CO) is the only Dem. to win a statewide election since '92.

How about:

Clark - SOS
Edwards - AG
