The issues in New Orleans, specifically, are NOT a local problem anymore
We're now hearing tales of the police leaving their posts, even turning in their badges.

We're hearing of hotel guests being evacuated under cover of night in blacked out convoys of private cars.

We're seeing, nonstop on teevee, the mass suffering and the lack of any relief.

We're seeing tragedy after tragedy. Personal tragedy and civic tragedy.

We're seeing and hearing of anarchy. Chaos. Lawlessness.

THIS IS NO LONGER A LOCAL ISSUE

Think of your own city or town. Could your town or even your state handle 100% displacement of its largest city's population? Think honestly. Does your city or state have the resources - the 'assets', as our dear leader and his functionaries like to say - to maintain order and provide the sustenance needed by the ENTIRE citizenry?

We all know the answer to that is a simple 'no'.

NO

This is a national issue, pure and simple. The laws of chaos are at work. The most well-intended of local actions could easily be the wrong one and that could beget further chaos.

NO

The only way this could have been handled is with a complete and dedicated early response by the NATIONAL government.

This is a tragedy the magnitude of which, in any other country, would demand the intercession of the world community.

Like the Tsunami just recently.

Like the devastating earthquakes in South America decades ago.

Like the countless and often forgotten mass tragedies to which our government has ALWAYS responded ... and generally responded well and competently.

NO

This was not a New Orleans problem. This was not a Louisiana problem. This was not a Southeastern or Gulf Coast problem.

NO

This is a NATIONAL problem. Only at the federal level do the resources for relief exist. Everything less than a full federal response is at best a finger in the hole in the dike.

And King George's finger was ..... where?

Squarely up his sorry ass.

God Help New Orleans. God Help the people of Louisiana. God help the people of the Gulf Coast region.

God help this once great nation.

God Bless America.

God, please grant us the ability to weather this until our country again regains its sense and elects for itself a leader. We lack one now, God. A leader would be a good thing. Help us get there, God.
