pretend black Rice has woman removed from her presence

http://americablog.blogspot.com/2005/09/breaking-sec-of-state-condi-rice.html

-snip-

What does surprise us: Just moments ago at the Ferragamo on 5th Avenue, Condoleeza Rice was seen spending several thousands of dollars on some nice, new shoes (we’ve confirmed this, so her new heels will surely get coverage from the WaPo’s Robin Givhan). A fellow shopper, unable to fathom the absurdity of Rice’s timing, went up to the Secretary and reportedly shouted, “How dare you shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless!” Never one to have her fashion choices questioned, Rice had security PHYSICALLY REMOVE the woman.

Angry Lady, whoever you are, we love you. You are a true American.

18. This woman might say yes to that one.
It IS callous. SHE is callous. bush and Contradicta deserve each other. I, too, am sorry her lovely shopping trip was interrupted by someone with a conscience.

I'd go so far as to suggest Contradicta is a "pretend" human being. It is NOT appropriate to go splurging on expensive fashions at a time like this. Just NOT. As I'm watching TV, I find myself getting uncomfortable and increasingly offended by the breezy commercials with the chirpy voice-overs and the nice graphics and the cool, colorful visuals and the fun, bouncy music track running underneath, touting all the great Labor Day sales and fun and shopping and bounty. Just somehow doesn't seem appropriate at the moment. Leaves me feeling empty.

Hell, if I were a retailer, I'd ask the local station to run a crawl underneath the commercial time I'd already bought and booked - to say that anyone shopping at my place of business can feel confident that part of everything they spend will be sent to the Red Cross for the victims in and around New Orleans. I'd want to turn around a purely consumer-oriented event into something for the greater good.

7. People with no shoes are walking in water and may be touching glass
or bodies or fire hydrants and we have Ms Rice in the highest end shoe store buying Ferragamo to the tune of thousands?

Man, she is a horrible liar and now we know she is an insensitive leech. If she had to shop this week , she could have stayed in her suite and had Ferragamo bring the shoes to her.

She is inhuman.

headed back to Washington. OR BETTER YET - if indeed she IS from Alabama, why not to her home town to check and see if everyone was okay there? How bout maybe she goes shopping at another shoe store and sends a few pairs of shoes to the Red Cross in New Orleans.

Besides, shit, doesn't she know about catalogue shopping? Or the internet? If she's gotta indulge, can't she pick up the phone and just place an order? After she's called the Red Cross and charged a donation maybe?

13. "A fellow shopper?"
So two people are shopping for expensive shoes and one of them tells the other that they should be ashamed because you shouldn't shop for shoes while thousands are dying and homeless? Shouldn't the "angry lady" also be ashamed as well, after all, she was doing the same thing?

I'm not trying to stick up for either one of them here, it just struck me as odd.

15. To be fair
The other woman is not the United States Secretary of State, who is by definition obligated to be serving her country rather than shopping for shoes!

27. I agree
One takes on a duty when he/she (or in this case he/it) becomes Sec of State. The angry shopper has no power execpt to give $$ or material aid. OTOH - just who is turning down all these offers of aid from other countries? A Sec of State too busy shoe shopping??
