Let me remind you of a somewhat similar tragedy that happened not long ago in Russia. The Kursk submarine had an explosion in the torpedo compartment and sank to the bottom, with survivors on board. The international community offered help as soon as the news was released by the Russian military. Russians rejected it all. President Putin was on vacation and stayed on vacation for days. When he finally put on a grieving face, the nation did not buy it. Russian newspapers ran a gigantic picture of Putin and the admiral of the Navy (forgot the name) with a caption "THEY ARE NOT DROWNING".
Result? Putin is still president, and more powerful than ever. The media were cracked down on. There is hardly any opposition left. Kursk sailors died. Russians let him get away with it.
What are we going to do, people?
