spreading plague? can someone with medical knowledge help me here? |
|
just wondering what the incubation period is for things like typhoid, cholera, diptheria, malaria, and west nile, to mention just a few. most of these people have been exposed to heaven only knows what (and I have known several people who have died after being in contact with raw liquid waste when they had any sort of cut or open sore).
I certainly don't begrudge these people getting out, I am heartsick that they haven't been gotten out before now. But am I correct in thinking that we are going to have some huge public health problems shortly, as they are "redistributed" (don't you just LOVE that word) around the country?

1. It is called the second wave... |
|
It is about 2 weeks, people will start showing syms in a week or so, depending...
In 2 weeks the second wave hits...
They thought the tsunami would have one, and it should have, but that nnever happened, mainly because they were getting help hours after the event, not 5 days.

2. Not a medical person, but in public health |
|
(although infectious disease epi is not my area). I think once they get folks out of there, it's easier to manage. The docs and medical personnel know what precautions to take to proflactively treat folks and/or prevent spreading disease. They will have procedures for isolation, etc.

3. That was exactly my thinking earlier |

upon hearing of the imprisonment of those in the convention center & how they are not allowing people to leave NO. I just don't get it. I thought perhaps the CDC was involved w/health concerns of those in the area. OMFG . . . can this get any worse?

Typhoid 7-14 days Cholera 1-5 days Diptheria shouldn't be a concern because of vaccination Malaria again shouldn't be a concern After the initial diarrheal diseases, my direct worry would be an outbreak of tuberculosis from this or Hepatitis C. I hope they are vaccinating all that were in the Superdome for Hep C.
