Freepers = Sociopathically Selfish?
We need to start nailing the SOBs who spout total CRAP when trying to justify having no compassion whatsoever for the poor and disabled. For example, that serious * who said survivors from the Superdome shouldn't be allowed into Houston because they didn't need more indigent, homeless people in Houston. I kid you not - it was on CNN. We need to start nailing these people with the truth.

There is a spectrum to Selfishness.

Level 1 = Mild selfishness, as in I don't want to share my potato chips with you (but ask me later when I've already stuffed my face)
Level 2 = Selfishness, as in I don't want to share ANYTHING with you (and stop asking, you loser)
Level 3 = Sociopathic Selfishness, as in I'm willing to let you die or kill you so I don't have to share with you (and I'm bribing and lobbying the government to make it public policy)

There are WAY too many people in our country who unashamedly fall into Level 3. We need to start shaming these people for their totally unacceptable behavior. We need to call them what they are - the Sociopathic and Criminally Selfish. We need to make them feel like the bloated maggots they are.

End of Disgusted Rant

1. My sister is bi-polar and my dad is a mild freeper so I say there
are a variety of mental illnesses at that sight. They have zero empathy. This is not a slight against anyone suffering from MI., I love my sister and dad, but I don't like their behavior. Neither will medicate.

That is why they talk the talk but can't (they don't know how to) walk the walk!

My son and daughter-in-law both have bipolar and they're liberals, too.

4. Really?
I'm curious...Are most republicans really emotionless/sociopathic? That would make me consider new strategies for defeating them, how we could use our more caring nature to our advantage.

6. There are degrees of sociopathy
Also, sociopathy and bipolar disorder are two entirely different (and really oppositive) things.

11. Most liberals I've met are on the light end of the scale
They tend to be more self-negating than self-protecting.

On the other hand, ever single NeoCon I've ever met was at least a borderline full-blown sociopath (they're actually called psychopaths in dx now, but I prefer the old term). These people *aren't* crazy...they ARE deeply and profoundly evil in a very real way (and no, I'm not a Christian).

16. Psychopath vs Sociopath
I always thought the difference was that a psychopath can't tell the difference between fantasy thought and reality, while a sociopath knows reality, but doesn't care about others suffering.

I think its true what you say, liberals are more self negating. Which is not necessarily a good thing. But speaking of neo-con psychology, I was reading FreeRepublic last night to see what they were saying. Now they call NOLA "The Big Sleazy". They blame the city because it was destroyed. They try to side with the destroyer, the victor, in every situation, even when its absurd because the destroyer was a force of nature. I don't know what to call that kind of mental illness.

18. psychopathology
Sociopaths are now included under the umbrella term psychopathy, is what I meant. There are variations within the theme. Of course it's been a long time since I was in school, so things may well have changed.

What you say about freepers - the "big sleazy", et al - is a perfect example of sociopathy in action. They associate with the killer (who is powerful and has no conscience) rather than the victim.

5. definite sociopaths
They are all borderline or full-blown sociopaths. Sociopaths comprise 20% of the population and when you look at the voter block, that is about the support base Bush has. He parlays that with his appeal to the white supremists, homophobes, misogynists and Jesus addicts, and that's his base. The numbers concur.

7. They stood across from Cindy Sheehan and yelled "We Don't Care"
And their vile display in response to New Orleans proves that they weren't kidding.

They DON'T Care. Because the Chimp Doesn't Care. And that means God Doesn't Care. At least in their fucked up world.

Right. Conservatives are intrinsically selfish, greedy assholes. Why the hell do you think they preach the 'greed is good' mantra?

Fuck them ALL

17. They're not "selfish" they're afraid and insecure
and suffer from a "totalitarian" mindset.

While it's true that most liberals, that I know, are more self-effacing, I think we're all "selfish," to an extent, and that doesn't have to be a bad thing.

Freepers suffer from fear of the other, powerlessness and insecurity. Since the thought of being weak makes them uncomfortable, they split and project, always wanting to side with the "strong," and the "victorious," so they don't have to deal with, or accept, either their smallness, or self-shame. They take out their aggressions on the "weak": the scapegoats.

They're also morally indignant as FUCK, and I don't understand where this comes from, except for lowwwwwww self-esteem. The desire to equate lifestyle (culture war) with "good" and "bad," is nothing more than insecurity.

That's why it takes only a few carefully wrought memes, on behalf of hate radio to whip them up -- "the other is after you," "the liberals are judging you and your way of life and want to take our Bible away," and "homosexuals want your kids," etc., and their paranoia-o-meter hits the red, and simultaneously, gives them convenient scapegoating groups to laud themselves over, and create a veneer of hierarchy, the bottom of which is, of course, not them.

It's psychology, alright, but it's not overt selfishness. It's largely insecurity.

19. The root of the problem is lack of empathy. I can picture myself
clutching my son and husband on a rooftop with sewer water as far as the eye can see.

These people have a perpetual case of itcan'thappentomeitis.
